Chapter 10

Third Person POV

JD is having some drinks with his friends. He wants to forget by getting drunk and to control the anger he is feeling right now. While he is in the corner wallowing in his anger, his friends are having fun.

He is still angry about what happened earlier. Ria and him agreed that he will go with her to do her groceries. There was no issue with their plan. He went to Ria’s condo around 3 pm. Ria was smiling when she opened the door for him. She has been ready since the morning.

She was wearing brown shorts paired with white sleeveless shirt. She looks hot and beautiful even if it was a casual outfit. On the other hand, JD was wearing a khaki walking shorts and plain white t-shirt.

JD just realized that they are actually wearing almost the same outfit. It is like they talk about wearing a couple’s outfit. He secretly smiled at the thought. It sounds absurd.

Ria saw the simple smile JD made. She got curious.

“Hey, mind sharing what’s that smile for? Are you excited to be my chef for today?” She’s trying to make a joke.

JD smiled wilder at what she just said. “Well, I’ve just realized something. We are like doing a couple’s outfit right now. Don’t you think?” He likes to tease her since her cheeks turns red all the time.

After JD said that, Ria suddenly checked her outfit. She gasped loudly after realizing that they are actually wearing almost the same outfit except for its style. JD was laughing at her reaction and couldn’t help pinching her cheeks.

“You really look adorable when your cheeks are red and so are your nose. Then, you get teary-eyed and…”

“Uuggh…” Ria just grabbed the nearest cushion and threw it at him. He is such a big tease! She doesn’t want to hear any further what he is going to say next.

“I am going to change. Hope you are happy now.” She tried to look upset. She was about to go to her room to change but JD quickly stopped her. He got hold of her by embracing his arms around her waist. It was an intimate position for Ria but he didn’t mind it at all.

“Relax... I am just teasing you. You are indeed so cute every time I tease you. You are like a kid.” She blushed further and covered her face with her hands. She is very much aware of his body close to hers.

It took a couple of seconds of silence before Ria decided to open her hands. It is the face of JD that she instantly saw. He was trying to look serious but he couldn’t hide the laughter in his eyes.

“You are not funny anymore.” She made her voice serious to hide her embarrassment.

“You like to keep teasing me. You are also acting like a kid.” She complained and couldn’t resist to stick out his tongue at him.

That made JD lost all his self-control. He was laughing so hard that his shoulders were shaking.

“In that case, we are both childish then. You should feel comfortable knowing that we act like kids sometimes. You shouldn’t feel embarrass and just laugh it off with me.” He is trying to make a point, letting Ria see to just have fun with him. Go with the flow, be free.

“What did you just say?!” Ria moved breaking the physical contact between them.

“So you admitted you are childish?” She was trying to suppress her laughter.

“You’re too big to act like a kid.” Then she stared at his body. It was too late for her to realize what she did.

She seriously regretted what she did. She is more aware of him as a man. He is tall, lean with solid muscles. He has that well-sculpted body that only an expert sculptor can bring to life. No wonder he is the top bachelor in town.

“Let’s go. You are still going to cook for our dinner later.” She pulled JD outside her condo and locked the door behind her. She has to think and act fast before their teasing can reach somewhere she would regret later on.

JD opened the car door to the passenger’s seat. He is using another car again. This would be like the third time he brought a different car. It’s barely a week since they’ve known each other.

Once Ria got inside, he fastened the seatbelt for her. She was about to protest but she saw the look on his face ready to tease her again. Instead of saying something, she scowled which earned a chuckle from him. He closed her door and went to the driver’s seat. When did he become such a big tease? Ria doesn’t like this new side of JD. It’s going to be hard for her not to fall in love with him.

Who would have thought that the man she is with right now is the very same man who is highly respected in his business. Not to mention a notorious playboy. The JD she is with right now is far from all her expectations of him. This JD is easy to reach out.

He is a great teaser and fun to be with. Ria really admires this side of him. She realized that he is not just a long-time crush for her. She has completely fallen in love with him.

It is not hard to like or even love this handsome man beside her. She liked him when she just saw him on TV and magazine covers. It would be impossible not to feel more for him now that they keep seeing each other every single day for almost one week now.

She is trapped with her emotions towards him. Her only consolation is that JD doesn’t know her feelings towards him. She resolved to keep it her feelings a secret from him so there’s no complication. She knows very well that JD only sees her as a friend. She’s happy and contented with that.

It took them just five minutes to reach the grocery store. It is really close to Ria’s condo unit. She only has to walk two blocks to reach the grocery store.

When they got inside the store, they went straight to the meat section. Then, they went to the fruits and vegetables. They almost filled up their two grocery carts.

Until now, Ria has still no idea what food JD is going to cook. Her only request is for him to cook his favorite dish.

Ria is aware of the women who keeps staring at JD. Well, he is just too handsome not to get the attention of any woman. His looks is something that you would never get tired of staring at all day long. She smiled at the thought.

After half an hour, they were done with their grocery shopping. They bought a lot and literally filled up both their carts. JD seems like in a panic buying mode. He would just readily picked up whatever he likes. She also picked up some grocery items but she checked first the price before putting in the cart. He paid for everything although she insisted to pay.

They went back to the condo for their planned dinner. They both went straight to the kitchen to set down all their grocery stuff.

“You know what, with all these stuff we got, it could last for a month for me. I even still have the left-over food from last night’s dinner.” Ria was laughing.

“Don’t worry about that. I am here to help you finish your supplies. I am pretty sure these stuff won’t last long.” Replied JD who was also laughing.

“How’s that going to happen? Don’t tell me you would come here every single day.”

“Ouch! You’ve just hurt my feelings.” JD tried to fake that he is sad. “I thought you enjoy my company.”

Really? So, he actually knows how to be dramatic. Such a cutie… she tried really hard not to smile.

“Don’t tell me you have no one special to spend your time with?” She asked trying not to sound nosy.

“Contrary to what people think of me, I value being alone. I can take care of myself. But lately, I am tired of it. I like to spend my time with someone.” JD said giving stress on his words while looking intensely at her.

It suddenly felt awkward. Instead of taking his words seriously, she tried to be funny with her reply.

“Yeah, it would be terrible for whoever you are with since you are too childish.” She rolled her eyes at him.

“Me? Childish? I am definitely far from that. Do you want some proofs ?” He is smiling now but you can see he has some crazy intentions just by looking at his face. He slowly walked towards her.

Ria had to step backward. Earlier, he admitted he was childish. Now, his mind has changed. Such a moody childish guy.

JD kept walking towards her and she kept stepping backward until she felt the sofa behind her. She has nowhere to go.

“Hey, you stay right there. You are not funny anymore.” She tried to hide her nervousness.

He didn’t follow what she said. He was inching closer towards her. Suddenly, her phone rang. She saw Uncle Jaime’s name on her phone screen.

“Let me just get this. It’s your dad.” He nodded but he was frowning while staring at her.

Ria moved sideways to answer the call. So she didn’t notice JD’s reaction.

“Hello Uncle Jaime, how are you? How was your business trip?” Ria happily said. It made him frowned more. He went to sit down at the sofa. He is getting pissed over the situation.

“That’s great to hear! I am doing great as well.” Her voice was so sweet. He almost forgot why he is in this condo in the first place. He is trying to win her trust, then tell her the truth and get rid of her.

“Dinner tonight?” He heard her talking to his dad.

“Hmmm… I don’t think I can make it tonight. I am with a friend.” She replied but she never mentioned his name. She is looking at him right now while she is listening to his dad from the other line. She was nodding to whatever his dad was telling her.

“Oh, so you will be leaving again. When are you coming back?” She asked formally but you can sense the disappointment from her voice. JD thought she is trying to hide something from the way she speaks to her dad.

He is getting pissed off right now since he knows the truth between them. She’s a great actress. What’s bothering him is it affects him so much. He is trying his best to control himself from lashing out.

“Alright, Uncle Jaime. Please take care.” And that ended their conversation.

Ria hasn’t uttered any word to him yet but he’s already opened his mouth.

“You know what, we can cancel for tonight. I can cook for you tomorrow instead.” He forced a smile to hide his anger. He is so pissed off at her. She didn’t even refused his dad’s dinner invitation immediately. She didn’t tell him that she’s with his son. Well, that’s how expert she is in keeping things discreet.

“Why are you leaving? I was looking forward to that special food you’re going to cook for dinner.” She sounded more disappointed than talking earlier with his dad. Well, he knows what she’s doing.

“Well, if I cooked today, I can’t stay long. I have to meet someone later.” JD actually lied. He is just so angry at the moment. He’s afraid he can’t hold it that it may ruin all his plans.

“Are you sure?” She asked to make sure it is not something else. JD just nodded.

“Okay then, I won’t hold you here or else you might miss your important meeting.” She smiled at him.

“Tomorrow, I will be expecting you Chef JD.” She gave him her sweetest smile and winked at him.

What she said made JD’s anger waned down.

“Alright, let’s make a deal. I will cook my favorite dish while you also cook your favorite dish. I want to know how good you are.” He looks serious this time. Gone is his teasing mood.

“Fine. I can do that.” Ria immediately agreed before their conversation would take their somewhere else. But something is off with him. Earlier, he was playful and kept teasing her. Is it because of his dad? She didn’t even mention his name to his dad thinking that it may upset him.

JD didn’t say that much after. He bid her goodbye. Ria gave him a questioning look but he can’t deal with it right now. He immediately went to his condo but he gets angry every time he thinks about what happened. He doesn’t even know why he has to be this angry. He already made his plans and putting them into actions. What’s with him? JD questioned himself.

So, here he is right now, drowning himself with alcohol while his friends are having a great time.

“Man, are you planning to lose your mind by getting drunk? You are doing a great job by the way.” It was Denver who looked at all the different bottles of alcoholic drinks he just consumed. He was being sarcastic. He wants JD to talk to them.

“I don’t think your issue has something to do with your business since you are doing great in that. That leaves only to one thing. It must be a woman. Isn’t it?” It was Miggy who was talking seriously to him. Everyone was surprised at the table since he always jokes around.

“Wow! This is the first time that our Miggy here got serious. Is it based from your experience?” One of his friends tried to taunt Miggy.

“Me? Experience? I have nothing to do with that. I am just helping this angry man right here.” He’s talking about JD.

Everyone at the table were laughing. They just couldn’t believe for a second  that Miggy could be serious. They keep taunting Miggy all night while JD stayed silent in the corner. He was thinking about Ria. What is she doing right now? Did she change her mind and go with his dad for dinner? He wanted to confront her earlier but something stopped him. He doesn’t want to end this game he started. He wants to spend more time with her. He doesn’t understand why he wants to have that time with her when he can just tell her the truth and dispose of her quickly. Is it because deep inside him he thought she is a nice person?

Again, he has to stay focus. He may enjoy her company but she’s also a good actress. She tries to act naive and timid. He decided to find a way to unmask her true self.
