My eyes fall to my arm at a very familiar touch. As my eyes trail the arm holding onto me, I hold my breath as I see Ben. His eyes look between me and the gentleman with the blue eyes, his face getting darker with anger by the second. I pull my arm from his hold and his eyes snap to mine. He takes a step towards me and I take a step back, crashing against the man wearing the navy suit. I turn to face him and see his eyes haven’t left me. I look back to Ben who is about to reach for me, and I dart through the crowd. I try looking for Allison hoping we could leave but I don’t see her anywhere. I think about going to my office so that Ben couldn’t find me but that’s the first place he’ll look. I make my way to the elevators and decide to go to the lounge area. I sit in one of the chairs and place my face in my palms. What the hell is going on in my life? I can’t seem to gain control of anything.
“Are you in danger?” A concerned voice asks from behind me. I slowly turn around and see Mr Blue Eyes standing there. I let out a sigh of relief that it isn’t Ben.
“I’m fine” I sharply state as I turn with my back to him. He walks around the chair and comes to sit beside me.
“You look fine, but that’s not what I asked” I feel his eyes burning the side of my head. I turn to meet his gaze trying not to have a breakdown at this moment. I take a deep breath.
“He is my ex, that’s all” I try to sound confident saying those words.
“Does he know he is your ex?” He raises an eyebrow at me and I suddenly realize he has a British accent. My eyes widen and a soft smile appears on his lips. He really is beautiful.
“I’m Russell” he holds out his hand for me to shake. I look at his hand and then back to his eyes.
“Elise” I hesitantly take his hand and I feel tingles where we touch. I try to take my hand but he keeps holding onto it gently.
“You didn’t answer my question Elise.. are you in danger?” His eyes are glued to me as my eyes search his. I feel tears building in my eyes. His face now bears a concerned look and his mouth opens slowly to speak.
“I promise I won’t hurt you..” I hold my head down trying to hold back my tears, his other hand comes to cup my chin and raise my head to meet his gaze once again.
“Let me take you home” his blue eyes somehow make me feel safe and I give him a gentle nod. He stands and lifts my hand with him making me follow his movement. We go to the elevator and take it down to the party. I feel his eyes on me and I suddenly feel self conscious but he doesn’t let go of my hand. The elevator doors open and he takes the lead, I follow behind, with him still holding onto my hand. We make our way through the crowd and I see Allison. She looks between me and Russell and gives me a wink. I squeeze his hand making him stop. Allison comes to whisper in my ear.
“He’s hot E!” barely holding onto her excitement.
“He’s just taking me home” I whisper back and she gives me a questioned look.
“I’ll see you at home” I say to Allison before squeezing his hand again and give him a gentle nod and we proceed to the door. When we go through the exit, we make our way to the carpark to where a black Porsche is parked. He opens the door for me and I give him a questioned look, he smiles and nods for me to get in.
What I didn’t realize is that Ben was in the crowd looking for me when he saw me leave the party with Russell. He was fuming at the sight of another man touching what he thought was his.
The drive home was filled with silence. I glanced his way every now and then but his eyes remained on the road. I broke the deafening silence to give him directions to Allison’s apartment. I realize he’s gripping the steering wheel tightly.
“Are you okay ?” I ask softly. Moments pass and then he hesitates before speaking.
“Did he hurt you?” His eyes still on the road and his voice feels like it sinks into my skin. I know who he is talking about but just don’t want to answer. I let out a sigh and proceed to spill all that has happened to this stranger. He doesn’t say anything and his eyes never leave the road.
We make it to Allison’s apartment building and he insists he walks me to the door to make sure I was safe. We make it to the apartment door and he stands off behind me, I turn to face him.
“Thank you for tonight” I offer a gentle smile but he doesn’t move.
“Good night” I then say as I turn to open the door but before I can enter, he holds onto my hand making me turn once more to face him. His eyes seem full of emotions that his mouth is having trouble explaining.
“I would like to see you again” he manages to mutter out in barely a whisper. I hold my breath as he raises my hand to his lips and places a soft kiss on the back of my hand. The warmth of his lips on my skin makes goosebumps appear on my hand and I gasp at the feeling.
“Okay” my voice sounding breathless. He lets my hand go and I turn to enter the apartment.
“Good night Elise” I hear him whisper behind me and his voice lingers on. I close the door behind me and stand in awe. Did tonight truly just happen or was I dreaming?
That night I dream of those piercing blue eyes and feel comforted. I wake to the smell of pancakes and immediately make my way to the kitchen to find Allison.
“Morning E” she greets me as soon as I come into her sight.
“Morning Ali.. I didn’t hear you come in last night” I yawn.
“Well I didn’t come home because I thought you needed.. privacy” she wiggles her eyebrows at me and I raise mine in return.
“Nothing happened” I firmly state as I take a seat by the island.
“Right..” she rolls her eyes and sarcasm evident in her voice.
“You missed all the commotion last night” Allison begins as she continues making breakfast.
“They announced the new CEO last night but he didn’t show” she continues as she sets a plate down in front of me along with a cup of coffee.
“But I heard some people say they saw him last night… a Mr Evans I think they said was his name”
“That was rude of him to not be present for the announcement” I say as I begin to eat breakfast.

The work day is a tiring one and the thought of Mr Blue Eyes comes to mind. I probably won’t see him again but there’s just something about him that draws me in. The thought is fleeting as the office phone rings.
“This is Elise Wilson”
“Miss Wilson, this is Trevor.. the CEO would like to see you” the voice on the phone is monotoned, like most receptionists.
“Now?” Confusion quite evident in my voice.
“Yes Miss Wilson” the voice sounding a bit annoyed before hanging up. Why would the CEO want to see me? He wasn’t even there for his announcement. My mind races on about the possibilities. I fix my clothes. I’m wearing a black pants and a loose white blouse and make sure to put on my white lab coat as I don’t know what this visit could possibly be about.
I make my way to the office up the elevator and enter. I see a young man with dark hair combed over his eyes and black square glasses. That must be Trevor. He comes around his desk to me and motions me to follow him to the office doors. He opens the door and I go in. I’ve never been in here before. I look around the office that has modern decorations. There’s a large book case along the wall and I see him standing with his back to me.
“Miss Wilson here for you Mr Evans” Trevor bellows from by the doorway and then closes the door. The man turns around and I am met with those piercing ocean blue eyes. I gasp.
