He flashes a gorgeous smile as I stand with my mouth gaping open. He motions for me to take a seat in a chair but I’m still shell shocked and unable to move. A soft chuckle escapes his lips as he comes to stand in front of the desk. He wears a light grey suit that fits him perfectly, with a white shirt and black oxford shoes and black belt to match. His hair has soft curls with some falling on his forehead. He leans against the desk, his hands deep inside his pockets and his eyes directed towards the floor. It seems something is on his mind.
“I told you..” his eyes come up to meet mine.
“..I wanted to see you again” his voice deep with what seems like longing. I stand looking at him still connecting the dots. Russell takes slow steps towards me, his eyes never leaving mine.
“Here” his hands emerge from his pockets to hold mine, the warmth of his touch runs up my arms as he sits me on the chair and he comes to sit beside me.
“How did you find me?” I ask with both my face and voice heavy with confusion. He searches my eyes before answering.
“I had Trevor go through last night’s benefactor list for your name; when your name didn’t come up I told him to check a list of all employees that were present and well.. here you are” his eyes seem to be taking in every feature of my face as he speaks as they flicker between my eyes, to my nose, my cheeks and my lips. His gaze pauses at my lips for a few moments before snapping back to my eyes.
“Are you a stalker?” I ask cautiously and take a scoot in the chair away from him. He laughs at the movement.
“No” a little laughter lingering in his voice.
“But I would very much like to get to know you” his eyes now focused on mine and the laughter gone. His gaze feels like it burns into me and I stare for as long as I could before I turn away. Silence fills the room and I can only here myself breathing.
“I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable..” he stands from chair and walks over to the desk, I turn to his direction, watching him as he walks away, his broad shoulders swaying and it’s mesmerizing. He slowly turns around to my direction and leans against the desk like he did before, his hands buried in his pockets once again.
“..that is far from my intentions” his burning gaze returns to me. Moments pass as we study each other’s gazes.
“What do you want.. Mr Evans, is it?” I shift slightly and he does the same. I hear him inhale deeply as his eyes fall to the floor and it looks like he’s trying to find words to say. My eyebrows furrowed as I study his demeanor. His eyes dart to me once again and a smirk appears on his lips.
“You can call me Russell” his smirk now turns to a smile, his aura is alluring and it’s hard to look away.
“I think that would be inappropriate.. Mr Evans” I see his eyes harden at my words.
“You are stubborn I see” his smile widens. He turns and goes behind the desk to sit and leans back in his chair.
“Okay Elise..” he begins and I watch as my name leaves his lips. I feel myself being dragged in just by his words. But why? Maybe I wanted to feel something other than hurt.
“You haven’t answered my question” I abruptly state and cut him off in an effort to break from his spell. His eyes search mine but he doesn’t answer, moments pass and I grow tired of the silence now consuming the air. I stand and turn to leave.
“I want you” his words sink into me and I pause in my steps with my back facing him. This can’t be happening. Not now. I hear his footsteps approaching me and I brace my self to feel his touch but he stops a foot behind me. My heart thumps in my chest.
“I know you are hurting.. and I’m going to wait for you El” his words are like needles poking my heart. I turn to face him, his eyes mirror mine. I see his want, no, his need for me. His hand leaves his pocket and comes to wipe away the tear that has escaped my eye.
“However long it takes” his hand cups my cheek and I close my eyes savoring his touch. I feel tears falling from my eyes. I take a step back out of his touch and open my eyes.
“No..” I whisper and shake my head.
“This can’t be.. you’re my boss” he chuckles at my words and steps closer eliminating the space between us. I look up to see his eyes and he peers down at me and I hold my breath. I raise my hands to his chest to push him away, as my hands touch his chest he stiffens under my touch and I hear his breath hitch. The world seems to melt around us and in this moment I don’t feel any pain. My eyes dart to his lips and I lean closer them, I feel his breath on my lips and I close my eyes. His hands come up to hold my face and I pucker my lips to him. I feel his soft lips on my forehead as he places a gentle kiss, my eyes flutter open as his hands leave my face and he takes a step back. He reaches into his jacket and pulls out a card.
“Whenever you’re ready” he holds out the card to me bearing a smirk on his face. I hesitantly take it. I turn to the door and I can feel his eyes on me, watching my every move. I open the door and look at Russell over my shoulder. I see him smile and I leave.
What am I getting myself into?
I go back to my office and I can’t help but think about Russell’s words. He said he would wait for me, however long it took. He seems perfect. I’m sure he doesn’t mean it, because men lie. I know that all too well. I can’t help feeling the tug in my chest as my mind races on. Ben.. well, I thought he was the one. I didn’t think I would ever be with anyone else because he is my everything; well he was. I look at the card with Russell’s number on it and play with it between my fingers. Just then, there’s a knock at the door. I quickly put the card in my bag.
“Come in” I say slightly nervous. The door opens and Allison enters. She comes and sits in front of the desk in one the chairs.
“So how’s your day going?” she asks with her eyebrows raised.
“It’s going fine.. I’m just about to finish up here and head home” I try my best to not sound like a child caught red handed.
“Okay, well I’m going out for after work drinks with some friends, want to join?” The slight disappointment in her voice tells me she already knows my answer.
“No thanks Ali.. maybe next time” I sigh.
“It’s always next time” she mutters under her breath.
“I’ll see you at home then” she stands and winks at me before she leaves. Which probably means I won’t see her at all cause she’ll probably spend the night at some guy’s house. Typical Allison, I smile to myself at the thought. I pack my things and head home for the day.
