Alaric’s POV
I’ve always hated mornings. To me, mornings were just the beginning of a horrible day. But this morning felt different, and I could feel it the instant I woke up and the first thing that came to my mind was her, My Princess.
The events of last night replayed in my head. After I had left her in the room, I had called for one of the women who would kill to lay with me and spend a long night with her, one that I didn’t enjoy because I kept thinking of her. A smile crept to my lips, taking my last thought off my head and a new one.
It was a new morning, one to taunt my Princess and keep trying to get her inside my bed. I stood up from the bed and rang the bell. The maids immediately swept into the room while I went to bathe. The moment I was done and dressed, the room was sparkling clean, making it look like no one had ever used it.
That was one thing I enjoyed out of all the perks of being the Alpha. I loved my space clean, and they brought out the best of it. I grinned in front of the mirror, twirling my coat. I wore my finest dress, a blue frock coat with black breeches. I packed my hair in a low bun. I had no idea the Princess loved long hair, and the thought raised my brow.
“What if she likes Asher so much because his hair is shorter than mine?” I said out loud.
The only difference between Asher and I was just our hair and nothing more, and maybe that was why.
“Remind me to call the hair stylist to cut my hair short this evening.” I mind-linked my wolf.
I took the last glance at myself in the mirror. The sight of me would impress her.
“That’s if Asher does not dress more than you.” My wolf taunted.
I shut it out instantly. No one would ruin my day, even with my princess' numerous words. I would not let it ruin a beautiful day. There was no issue as long as I got to taunt and talk to her. I walked out of the room, returning the greetings of the maids and guards and striding towards the dining room.
The guard greeted me as he opened the door, and instantly, my wolf rumbled with disgust and annoyance; the sight in front of me dampened my mood. Seating, there was my Princess, head thrown backward and laughing at something Asher had said, a smile also on Asher’s face as he stared into his food.
“Nothing would ruin your day, Alaric Nightshade. Not even the Princess.” My wolf taunted back.
I clenched my jaw as I walked towards them, the sound of my shoe alerting them, and they looked up at me immediately.
“Good morning, and happy breakfast. You didn’t even see to call me, brother. I know the Princess doesn’t care, but my brother.” I started, stopping on my feet and throwing my hand on my chest, “I’m deeply hurt.”
“Good morning, Alaric,” Asher responded before returning to his food.
I met Audrey's eyes, but she looked away immediately, returning to her food. I smiled before walking towards the table, pulling out my chair, and taking my seat. The maids, standing alert, rushed to the table, serving my plate before moving back.
I glanced between them, focused on their food and acting like I wasn’t even there. I started eating too, thinking to give them time to feel my presence, but even after a few minutes, whatever they were laughing at that I disrupted wasn’t continued, and I was not even paid any attention.
“Have I done anything, Asher?” I asked, unable to keep it anymore.
He looked up from his food; at the same time, Audrey was looking at him at me. His brows were crumpled as he responded, “What do you mean? Did you do anything I ought to know, Alaric?”
“None that I know of.” I shrugged out a reply. “Just before I entered, it seemed like you were both having fun, laughing, and enjoying yourself. And now, it looks like I have disrupted your fun time, and you can’t talk again. So tell me, Asher, have I done anything wrong?”
Audrey just looked back and forth again before continuing her food, not caring about the staring contest between Asher and me.
“Stop this now, Alaric.” I heard Asher’s voice in my head.
So now he was using mind-link, “Don’t you think it’s unfair she has only eyes for you, and she won’t even blink at me?”
“It’s none of my problems, Alaric, none. If she doesn’t like you, find a way to make her like you. You don’t have to make me uncomfortable whenever you come to the table.”
“I had no idea I was making you uncomfortable, Asher. If I’m making you uncomfortable, what about her? Or do you think everything revolves around you, Alpha?”
He clenched his jaw, not taking his eyes off me for once. His fork twirled around his hand, “Alaric, you’re starting to step out of your boundary. Would you like to leave the pack if you can’t stand a little affection?”
I scoffed, feeling Audrey’s gaze on me, but I didn’t bulge from Asher’s own, “A little affection, Asher? A little? The only person showing affection is her, while you keep ordering her like a baby girl. I have a question for you, Asher. Do you even like her?”
He instantly cut off his link, staring at me hard and long. I felt disgust churn up in me, one that I hadn’t thought for a long time towards my twin brother.
Asher cut me off after asking if he liked my Princess or not. Was that I looked at Audrey, who was staring at my hand. Then I knew how hard I was gripping and punching the fork into the table.
“You should learn to control yourself.” She muttered and hissed before turning to her food.
All the anger I felt bolted out instantly, my mind exploding at her words. She was all there, seated and thinking my dear brother was so much in love with her when he could not even answer the goddamned question if he liked her. And yet, I felt something for her was being treated.
I shifted the chair out of the table, deep lines on my forehead, jaw, and fist clenched together.
“Audrey, follow me,” I commanded.
She looked from her food in surprise at me. Her brows curled up. “What?”
“Follow me,” I repeated.
“Why? I’m eating, and I’m busy. Why?”
“I said, and won’t repeat, follow me.”
“Stand up and go with him, Audrey. I promise you. He won’t hurt you. He dare not hurt you.”
The sound of Asher’s voice assuring her made me more furious. I turned back to them, eyes blaring with anger. “Why the f**k do you do what you’re doing? You know I won’t hurt you, Princess! So why the f**k do you think I would hurt you!” I yelled out angrily.
Asher didn’t even spare me a glance at all, his eyes still on Audrey, and from the corner of my eyes, his hand touching her reassuringly before she stood up.
“Fine then. I’m always the bad guy.” I said with clenched teeth as I made my way out of the room.
I matched angrily to my room, not caring if she was behind me. One thing I knew and was sure of was that she would come. Since Asher asked her to follow me, and she was such a puppet for Asher, she would show her face here.
I started pacing back and forth, losing the bun in my hair and weaving my hand through it.
“f**k! f**k! Alaric, f**k!” I cursed out.
I had not planned my day to go like this, not even in a bit. My eyes went to the door at intervals, waiting for it to open and her beautiful face to show; maybe it would calm me down, or her voice would even soothe me. Suddenly, The door opened, and I stood still as Audrey’s face and body popped in, closing the door.
Her eyes swept across my room. It was different from hers. Although hers was still big, mine was bigger. It was one of the deals.
“So I’m here. What’s the problem?” She asked as she finally settled her eyes on me, crossing her hands underneath her breast and propping her cleavage up for me to see.
And it was at this moment, as my eyes settled on half her breast spilling out of her dress, I forgot all I wanted to say. And another plan was propping into my brain.
“Lock the door.”
