Chapter 8 - “Library Confessions (Almost)”

1354 Words
Morning sunlight filtered gently through the tall windows of the Royal Academy library, painting soft stripes across the polished floor. The entire building carried a rare, sacred silence—quiet enough to be worshipped by scholars… and perfect for one specific girl whose top priority in life was avoiding effort. Celestia Draven stepped inside like a wandering spirit returning to her temple. Her pillow was hugged close to her chest. Her silver hair floated softly behind her. Her half-lidded eyes reflected only one goal: Nap. Immediately. Astra hovered beside her, tiny paws clasped, voice whisper-soft. “Yes… yes… this is good. No chaos. No magic. No princes. Just silence. Just peace. Just—” Celestia turned down a row of shelves. Astra froze. “…Wait. Did you hear something?” Celestia blinked slowly. “No.” “Exactly. That’s the sound of safety. DO NOT ruin it.” Celestia hummed, a gentle sound that suggested she’d already stopped listening. Her attention drifted to the far corner of the library—a plush couch bathed in sunlight, surrounded by softly glowing lanterns and a stack of tall bookcases that acted like natural sound barriers. A perfect nest. Celestia approached it on autopilot. Pillow down. Body down. Eyes closed. Astra exhaled in bliss. “At last. Our RELAXATION ARC.” But fate had been personally offended by the idea of Celestia resting without interruption. Because a shadow appeared across her face—tall, cold, perfectly composed. Astra choked. “No. NO. Not here. Not in the sacred zone. WHY does he ALWAYS TRACK YOU—?!” Celestia opened one eye, the motion slow and reluctant. Raven Aldric stood at her table. Holding something. A tray. With tea. And honey biscuits. Celestia blinked at the tray. Then at him. “…Why are you here?” Raven lowered the tray onto the table with elegant precision. “I brought you something.” Celestia slowly sat up. “You brought me… tea?” “Yes.” “And biscuits?” “Yes.” Celestia blinked. “From where?” “The palace.” Astra sputtered like an offended grandmother discovering a secret engagement. “HE BROUGHT GIFTS?! THAT IS ROYAL COURTSHIP BEHAVIOR—!” Raven cleared his throat sharply. “You fell asleep standing yesterday. That is… concerning.” Celestia blinked at him. “I remember.” “That’s not normal.” “I was sleepy.” “…That makes it worse.” Celestia picked up a biscuit, sniffed it once, then took a small bite. Her eyes softened. “Mmm.” Raven stared at her with more focus than someone watching a magical phenomenon. “…It’s good?” he asked. Celestia nodded. “Yes.” Raven looked away quickly, ears tinged faintly pink. “It’s not a big deal,” he muttered. Astra squealed into her paws. --- ⭐ Trying to Study (Failing Immediately) Raven smoothly opened a textbook. “You missed half of yesterday’s lesson. I’ll explain.” Celestia blinked at the pages. Too many words. Too much effort. Her head lowered toward her pillow. “Later.” “Now.” “Later.” “Celestia.” She lifted her eyes halfway, heavy with drowsy moonlight. Raven inhaled sharply before remembering how breathing worked. “If you don’t study, you’ll be punished,” he said softly. Celestia blinked at him. Raven added, quieter: “…And I don’t want that.” Celestia tilted her head slightly. She wasn’t sure why Raven’s voice felt soft lately. Or why he looked at her like that. Or why her heartbeat felt… strange. She took a sip of tea, hiding half her face behind her cup. Raven watched the exact moment her lips touched the rim. He turned away sharply. Astra whispered with cosmic smugness, “He likes you.” Celestia choked on her tea. Raven instantly leaned forward, wiping a droplet off her cheek before he even realized what he was doing. His thumb brushed her skin softly. Too softly. They both froze. Celestia stared. Raven stared. Then he pulled his hand away abruptly, ears faintly red. “…Apologies.” Celestia looked down at her pillow, unsure of what she felt. Warm, probably. But also too sleepy to process emotions. --- ⭐ Almost a Confession Silence settled between them—gentle and warm, like sunlight through curtains. Raven broke it first. “You were nearly hurt yesterday,” he said quietly. Celestia blinked. “It happens.” “It shouldn’t.” “It will again.” Raven clenched his jaw. “It better not.” Celestia tilted her head slightly. “There is nothing to worry about.” Raven leaned closer—just slightly, but unmistakably. “I worry.” Celestia’s eyes widened a fraction. Her heart skipped. Her fingers curled absently around her pillow. “…Why?” Raven didn’t speak immediately. Silver eyes lowered. Then lifted. Then softened. “Because it’s you.” Celestia froze. Astra dropped her jaw in shock. Before anyone could process the moment— A tornado named Leon burst into the library. --- ⭐ Leon Ruins Everything “CELESTIAAAAAA—!!!” The librarian gasped and fell behind the counter. Students broadened the distance around him like he was an active magical hazard. Raven’s eyelid twitched. Leon stopped when he saw Celestia sitting with Raven. Then he narrowed his eyes. “…Why are YOU here?” Raven replied calmly, “This is a library.” “You don’t LIKE libraries.” Raven stared at him with royal disdain. Leon turned to Celestia. “Did he DRAG you here?!” “No.” “Did he THREATEN you?!” “No.” “Did he BRIBE you?” Raven muttered under his breath, “…No.” Leon threw his arms up. “THEN WHY ARE YOU SITTING TOGETHER?!” Celestia blinked. “…Studying.” Leon dramatically collapsed into a nearby chair. --- ⭐ The Choice (Impossible Question) Leon leaned forward with intensity. “Celestia. Choose.” Celestia blinked. “…Choose what?” “ME or HIM! Who do you want to study with?!” Raven turned to her instantly. The tension in the room doubled. The librarian hid behind the counter again. Celestia stared at the two princes. Then at her pillow. Then at the tea. She hugged her pillow tighter. “I choose…” Both princes leaned forward. “…nap.” Leon fell off his chair. Raven closed his eyes and exhaled, the faintest smile tugging his lips. Astra wheezed with laughter. --- ⭐ The Quiet Corner (Ruined Immediately) Celestia drifted to the back of the library. Found a warm patch of sunlight. Curled up. Closed her eyes. Peace. Raven followed quietly. Leon followed loudly. Astra followed in resignation. Celestia was asleep within moments. The soft kind. The peaceful kind. The kind that made even the library dust sparkle. Raven stood beside her. Silent. Watching her. Protecting her. Leon knelt beside her and whispered intensely: “She sleeps like an angel.” “You are loud,” Raven snapped. “She’s an angel!” “You’re still loud.” Astra nearly growled. “LEAVE. HER. ALONE.” “No!” Leon hissed. Raven grabbed Leon by the collar and dragged him away like a misbehaving pet. “NOOO—LET ME GO—THIS IS INJUSTICE—” “It is justice,” Raven replied. He dropped Leon in the far corner. Then returned to Celestia. --- ⭐ Raven’s Hidden Heart He knelt beside her quietly. Celestia’s hair glowed in the sunlight. Her breathing was soft, even. Her expression peaceful and warm. Raven’s chest tightened. He reached forward— But stopped just inches away from her face. Her skin looked soft. Her expression was soft. Everything about her was… “…Why do you affect me like this?” he whispered. Astra’s tail puffed. “Oh no. He is falling HARD.” Raven gently adjusted her blanket so she wouldn’t get cold. Leon watched from afar, betrayed by the universe. And Celestia? She slept peacefully. Dreaming of nothing. Knowing nothing. While two princes fell deeper into her orbit, one sleepy moment at a time. ---
