Chapter Three

1224 Words
Harper's Pov, As I walked home from school, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something strange was happening. My mind was still reeling from the events of the day, from the bullies to the sudden appearance of the new transfer students. I couldn’t stop thinking about them – Aiden, Caleb, Kian, and Remy. There was something about them that was different, something that set them apart from everyone else at school. Lost in thought, I didn’t notice the sound of footsteps behind me until it was too late. I turned around to see a group of my usual bullies approaching, their sneers and taunts filling me with dread. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t our favorite little loser,” one of them jeered, stepping closer to me. “What’s wrong, Harper? Can’t handle a little teasing?” I backed away, my heart pounding in my chest. I knew what was coming next – the pushing, the shoving, the name-calling. But before the bullies could lay a hand on me, I heard a voice call out. “Hey! Leave her alone!” I turned to see Aiden and Caleb standing behind me, their arms crossed and their expressions fierce. The bullies hesitated for a moment, taken aback by the sudden appearance of the new students. “Who do you think you are?” one of the bullies spat, stepping forward. “I think I’m someone who’s sick of seeing people like you pick on others,” Aiden replied, his voice cold and steady. The bullies exchanged a look, and then one of them lunged forward, aiming a punch at Aiden. But Aiden was quick, dodging out of the way and retaliating with a punch of his own. Caleb joined in, taking on another one of the bullies. I watched in awe as the two new students took down the bullies with ease. It was like they were trained fighters, their movements precise and calculated. In just a matter of moments, the bullies were lying on the ground, defeated and humiliated. Aiden and Caleb turned to me, their expressions softening. “Are you okay?” Aiden asked, reaching out to help me up. I nodded, still in shock from what had just happened. “Y-yeah, I’m fine. Thank you for saving me.” Caleb grinned, his eyes sparkling. “No problem. We don’t tolerate bullying in our pack.” That’s when it hit me – pack. What did he mean by pack? I looked at Aiden and Caleb, studying them more closely. And that’s when I saw it – the telltale signs of something supernatural. Their eyes were a shade too bright, their movements too fluid. They were werewolves. My mind raced as I tried to process what I was seeing. Werewolves were supposed to be mythical creatures, the stuff of legends. And yet here they were, standing before me in all their glory. “How did you…?” I began, but my voice trailed off. I didn’t even know what to ask. Aiden smiled knowingly. “It’s a long story. But we can explain everything to you. If you want to know.” I nodded, my curiosity getting the better of me. “Yes. Yes, I do.” And that’s how I found myself in the midst of the werewolves, learning about their pack and their way of life. It was overwhelming at first, but I couldn’t deny the thrill of it all. The werewolves were unlike anything I had ever encountered before, and I couldn’t wait to learn more about them. But little did I know that I was about to witness something even more incredible. As I sat with Aiden, Caleb, Kian, and Remy, listening intently to their stories about being werewolves, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement coursing through me. This was something that most people only read about in books or watched in movies, and yet here I was, sitting amongst a group of real-life werewolves. Aiden had explained to me that their pack had been in the area for a few years now, but they had managed to keep their existence a secret from the rest of the town. They had their own territory in the forest, where they could roam freely without fear of being discovered. It was a tight-knit community, with each member having a specific role to play in the pack. As they continued talking, I noticed a subtle change in their demeanor. Their eyes seemed to glint with a different kind of intensity, and I could sense a restlessness in the air. Suddenly, Remy stood up, his body tense. “It’s time,” he said, his voice low and urgent. Kian and Caleb nodded in agreement, their expressions serious. Aiden turned to me, a small smile on his lips. “Harper, we have to go. We’ll explain everything later, I promise.” Before I could even protest, they were already moving towards the door, their movements fluid and swift. I hurried to follow them, my heart racing with anticipation. We made our way to the forest, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease as we got deeper into the woods. It was dark, and the only sound that could be heard was the rustling of leaves beneath our feet. As we walked further into the forest, I began to see a faint glow in the distance. As we approached the source of the light, my eyes widened in wonder. There, in the middle of the clearing, stood a group of werewolves, their bodies pulsating with energy. They were gathered in a circle, their heads bowed in concentration. As I watched, I saw something that made my blood run cold. The werewolves began to shift, their bodies twisting and contorting as they transformed into their wolf forms. It was a sight unlike anything I had ever seen before – it was raw, primal, and utterly breathtaking. I stood there, frozen, as the werewolves continued their transformation. And then, as if sensing my presence, one of them turned to look at me. It was Aiden, his eyes shining in the darkness. “Harper,” he called out, his voice echoing through the clearing. “Come closer. We won’t hurt you.” I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should approach. But something inside me urged me forward, and before I knew it, I was standing before Aiden, his warm breath on my face. “Watch,” he said softly, and then turned back to the others. As I watched, the werewolves began to move in unison, their movements fluid and graceful. They were communicating with each other, I realized, using a language that I couldn’t understand. It was a strange and beautiful thing, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away. And then, just as suddenly as it had started, it was over. The werewolves began to shift back into their human forms, their bodies pulsating with energy once again. They looked at me, their expressions serious. “Harper, you have seen something that very few humans have witnessed,” Aiden said. "We trust you to keep our secret safe." I nodded, my mind racing with everything that had just happened. I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed - the werewolves, their transformation, their language. It was all so incredible.
