Chapter four

Harper's Pov, As I spent more time with the werewolves, I couldn’t help but feel drawn to Aiden. There was something about him that I couldn’t quite put my finger on – a quiet intensity that made my heart race whenever he was around. We spent hours talking and learning about each other, and I found myself opening up to him in a way that I never had with anyone else. He listened intently to everything I had to say, offering words of encouragement and support whenever I needed it. And then there were the moments when we were alone, when his gaze would linger just a little too long or his touch would send shivers down my spine. I tried to ignore the feelings that were growing inside me, telling myself that it was just a crush – but deep down, I knew it was more than that. One evening, Aiden and I were sitting outside under the stars, talking about everything and nothing. I couldn’t help but steal glances at him every now and then, admiring the way his features were illuminated by the moonlight. “You know,” he said suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence between us. “I’m glad we met.” I smiled, feeling a rush of warmth spread through me. “Me too.” He turned to face me, his expression serious. “There’s something I need to tell you, Harper. Something important.” My heart started to race as I waited for him to speak. What could be so important? “I know that we haven’t known each other for very long, but… I feel like I can trust you. And I hope that you can trust me too.” I nodded, my curiosity piqued. “Of course I trust you, Aiden. What is it?” He took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto mine. “I’m a werewolf, Harper. And so are Caleb, Kian, and Remy.” I felt my mouth drop open in surprise, my mind struggling to process the revelation. It was like a piece of the puzzle had finally clicked into place – the superhuman strength, the heightened senses, the unexplained disappearances. It all made sense now. “I had a feeling,” I admitted, feeling a mix of shock and excitement. “But I didn’t want to assume.” Aiden smiled, relief evident in his expression. “I’m glad you’re not freaking out. We’re not exactly human, after all.” I shrugged, feeling surprisingly calm about the whole thing. “It doesn’t matter to me. You’re still the same person, Aiden.” He leaned in closer, his eyes searching mine. “And what if I told you that being a werewolf means that I’m… different? That I have certain needs and desires that most humans wouldn’t understand?” I felt my heart skip a beat, my cheeks flushing with heat. Was he suggesting what I thought he was suggesting? “I think I can handle it,” I said softly, feeling a sudden surge of courage. Aiden’s face broke into a grin, his eyes sparkling. “Good. Because there’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.” And with that, he leaned in and kissed me, his lips soft and warm against mine. It was like fireworks going off inside me – a rush of heat and desire that I couldn’t ignore. We broke apart, breathless and giddy. “Wow,” I murmured, feeling like I was in a dream. Aiden chuckled, his hand finding mine. “I’ve wanted to do that since the moment I saw you, Harper. I hope you feel the same way.” I smiled, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. “I do. I really do.” And that’s how Aiden and I became more than just friends. We spent the rest of the night talking and laughing, discovering more about each other and exploring the newfound attraction between us. As the weeks went by, Aiden and I became inseparable. We hunted together, trained together, and spent every spare moment together. It was like we were the only two people in the world – nothing else mattered as long as we were together. But as much as I loved being with Aiden, there was still a part of me that was scared. The world of werewolves was dangerous, and I had already seen firsthand how violent and unpredictable it could be. One night, as we were sitting around the campfire with the rest of the pack, I voiced my concerns. “What if something happens to us?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “What if we get attacked, or someone tries to hurt us?” Aiden took my hand, his eyes serious. “We’ll protect each other, Harper. That’s what we do. And besides, we’re not alone. We have the pack to watch our backs.” I nodded, feeling a little better. But there was still a nagging feeling in the back of my mind – a sense of unease that I couldn’t shake. That feeling only grew stronger a few days later, when we received news that the nearby town had been attacked by a pack of rogue werewolves. People had been killed, houses had been destroyed – it was chaos. As soon as we heard, Aiden and I sprang into action. We gathered the rest of the pack and headed towards the town, ready to defend against any threats. When we arrived, the scene was even worse than we had imagined. Buildings were in ruins, smoke filled the air, and the streets were littered with debris. And in the midst of it all, we could hear the snarls and growls of the rogue pack. Aiden took my hand, his grip tight. “Stay close to me,” he whispered. “We’re going to take them down.” And with that, we charged into battle. The next few hours were a blur of fur and fangs, blood and sweat. But in the end, we emerged victorious – the rogue pack had been defeated, and the town was safe once again. As we made our way back to the safety of our own territory, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and awe. I had never felt so alive – so powerful.
