"Nana?" Mattie gasped.
Her grandmother turned to look at her niece and smiled warmly at her. She knelt down and stroked Mattie's cheek.
"Oh, honey, I've missed you so much," she said softly. "Why haven't you answered your phone? I've tried calling every hour since I left you on the beach."
Mattie looked into her grandmother's beautiful eyes. The last time she'd seen her had been years ago in her childhood. Her grandparents had passed away shortly after the fire, and they hadn't been able to visit her in the hospital.
Mattie's heart broke at the thought of losing her grandmother.
"I'm sorry, Nana," Mattie said, hugging her tight. She pulled back and looked at her closely. "Have you changed at all? Are you okay?"
