Her lungs wheezed as she ran through the forest. Amber could hear them chasing her as she looked for an escape route. She looked back momentarily to see how close they were, but she tripped over a log in the process. She cried out in pain when a large branch cut her ankle. She couldn't let it slow her down. She got back up and started running again. As she heard them gaining, she dug down deep and pushed harder than ever. Finally, she came upon a river. This was a blessing as it would help to cover her scent. She jumped into the moonlit water and began to swim as fast as she could, mostly underwater. The current was moving downstream, away from her pursuers, and she swam with it. About two miles down, she climbed out of the water on the opposite bank. She looked around for a few minutes
