Mike
Mike lives in a modest apartment which he loves with the girl he loves even more, Marilyn. Marilyn has curly blond hair, a waif-like figure, and a bubbly personality. She was one of those girls where whatever went wrong, whatever tribulation that might strike, she always finds the positive of the situation. She is an only child and has very close family who love her and are delighted that she is with Mike. He may be a bit cynical, but he was smart, strong, capable man. And, she always was a bright, ball of light in his life.
Mike is a bit more gruff and tends to be pessimistic, which is partly why they are such an ideal couple. When he feels like life is screwing him raw, like he is getting the short end of the stick, when he is in despair, she always brightens the situation with her own inner light and eternal optimism. She was the only one who had a way of making him feel better when he was down in the dumps. She was his light. She was his eternal love. The only reason he hasn't married the girl yet is that he feels he must find a supremely special way to propose to such a magnificent female.
Mike's apartment is simple, but perfect for his needs. Not too big and extravagant, but it also isn't a dirty mattress in the corner of an empty, dingy room. It was just right. It used to be quite plain, with white walls, gray furniture, and not much else. But, over the years that they have been together, she has brightened the place up with little curios and knick knacks placed here and there. It made the dry apartment look like a home, and Mike loved it. He loved her. All those little things she did with his apartment just remind him of her. Her. The light of his life.
Marilyn was visiting with her parents. Mike stayed and visited awhile and then excused himself to go to the bar to meet an old friend that he hadn't seen in years. He wasn't leaving because of her parents. He liked them. They liked him. It was an amicable relationship. It's just that he had already set up this date to meet his buddy, Jerry, who he knew back in high school. They both were on the football team together and were best friends. Over the years, they lost touch. Then, a few weeks ago, he met him at a gas station pumping gas. Jerry was moving back to the hometown, so they set up a time to meet, after Jerry was all moved in.
When Mike and Jerry were at the bar, enjoying a pitcher of beer together, this weird guy showed up and just sat at their table, uninvited. It was just weird. Jerry and Mike both exchanged a look of "What is this strange guy all about" and then returned the look to the guy. The stranger introduced himself as Evingston. He proceeded to tell them that he was a vampire and asked if they wanted to be vampires, Mike found this so hilarious that he spat his beer out of his mouth as he was drinking. Jerry just broke out into a hearty laugh. "What are you even talking about!?" exclaimed Jerry between belly laughs.
"I merely am proposing an opportunity for you to be stronger, faster, more powerful than you have ever been!" said Evingston excitedly as if he were offering gold to them.
"Look Buddy, we're not interested," said Mike, wanting to return to talking to his friend without this weirdo hanging around.
"But, you misunderstand. If you come with me to the alley outside, I will prove it to you," replied Evingston.
"He said get outta here!" shouted Mike in a stern, brute voice. "We're tired of your bullshit!" At that, the man, with a frustrated look on his face, turned and went and sat at the bar by himself. Mike then turned to Jerry and said, "Vampires. That guy is nuts if he thinks he is a monster." Once he said that they both began to laugh again at the strange, old man sitting at the bar. They then went back to their conversation.
After having a splendid evening together, they exchanged cell phone numbers and headed out toward their own cars. As Mike was heading to his car, suddenly, a man with great strength grabbed him from behind and dragged him into the alley. It was Evingston. "But, how could a man his size overpower Mike who was larger and more muscular," he wondered. Then, he showed them. Fangs. He bit down on Mike's neck and Mike could feel the life draining out of him. He collapsed to the ground. He could feel the cold, hard pavement and cool night air. Then, it was over. He was dead.
When Mike awoke, he was alone in the alley. He was shocked. He survived. He felt the fang marks on his neck and he was still bleeding. He reached in his pocket and to get a kleenex to wipe the blood away and found a stupid note from the man who nearly killed him, or vampire that nearly killed him. It said to meet him at an address. "f**k him," he thought. "I'm not going to meet that bastard who nearly killed me. He went in his car and drove home. When he got there, his girlfriend and her parents were still visiting. He sat with them and they talked for awhile, when suddenly, he began to change. He began to feel feral. His normal, sweet, but gruff self, his personality, began to fade into the back and he felt violent, monstrous, out-of-control. With no self-control he could see what he was doing, but had no control to stop himself. He grabbed Marilyn as she was the closest thing to him and bit into her neck with his fangs, draining her, to feed his inevitable, horrendous thirst. Oh God, how he thirsted for human blood and would stop at nothing to get it. He didn't care who he killed to get it. He dropped her lifeless body to the floor. Her mother screamed in terror. The father went to the tool closet and pulled out an axe. Just as he grabbed the mother to further quench his disastrous, horrific, undying thirst, he felt the blade of the axe enter his neck and go all the way through as he was thrust into death, with no further thought, feeling, or piece of the man he used to be.
