My team had dug and turned every stone but by all accounts, the person who’d hacked out systems was gone. Hell, it was as if he’d never been there! All the codes remained unchanged, all the safety nets were untouched and not a single security trap had been set off.
Our borders had been fine-combed and yet there wasn’t a single trace of the invaders. No sign that there had been a breach or even that there had been a stranger there. Hell, it looked like the body had bloody well magically spawned at the border. And yes, frustratingly, I’d also looked into that option, but the witches assured me that if the body had been tampered with magically, there would have been a magical residue in the air.
