Sara, an American Muslin gri, attended a non-diverse, culturally unwelcoming elementary school since kindergarten. When she began wearing a hijab (headcover) in third grade, bullying started Kids excluded her from activities, pulled on her hijab to take it off, and vandalized her schoolwork. She even was compared to ISIS in the presence of a teacher who failed to support her. A change of school wa not possible for her parents, so they let her take off her hijab-part of her identity-hoping the assault would stop. But it didn't As Sara moved to secondary schools, the intensity of bullying increased. She experienced cyberbullying and was called a terrorist On different occasions, groups of students cornered her and threatened to beat her up. Once she was searched in the school office (without her parents permission) because someone claimed Sara had explosives in her backpack After years of being bullied at school, Sara finally gave up in despair. She told her parents that she didn't want to be alive anymore. She said no matter where she went, she didn't feel safe, and adults did nothing to protect her. She was hospitalized after a suicide attemptThere was a young student named Mia. She had just started her first year at school and she was excited to make new friends and learn new things. Unfortunately, not everyone in the class shared her enthusiasm for learning. There were some students who liked to pick on those who were different or weaker than them. Mia was often the target of their bullying. At first, it started off as small things like name-calling and teasing, But then it got worse. The bullies would talk behind her back and make fun of her in front of everyone else. They even spread rumors about her that weren't true. Mia didn't know what to do.
