Chapter 4

TESSA I can’t believe he did that. Right there in front of me. After he just tried to kiss me. I shouldn’t care but I do. I wish it was me but it’s not. I suddenly felt sick. Nick is a great guy but he’s no Hardin. I hate how he makes me feel. He’s so infuriating. Nick drove me home in my car and then took a taxi back to get his. It was really sweet. He gave me the perfect goodnight kiss and didn’t push for more. He put his number in my phone and told me to call him. I put mine in his phone but seeing as how I’m still a virgin and all he probably won’t call. I didn’t put out like I planned to. Hardin ruined my whole night. I went upstairs to my room and grabbed the pink vibrator from my night stand. I may not be having s*x tonight but I’m definitely going to get off. Fifteen minutes later I was spilling all over my bed to dirty thoughts of Hardin’s tongue between my legs. It may not be the real thing. He may have hurt me badly tonight. He’s the only one that can get me off so my thoughts aren’t actions and I’m the only one who knows. I love him despite everything, always have, but he’ll never love me and I have to accept that. School starts tomorrow and I’m dreading it. I’ve managed to avoid Hardin for the last two weeks. There would be no avoiding him tomorrow. Nick texted me the morning after the party. I didn’t think he would but I woke up to a text from him. We’ve been hanging out the last two weeks and he wants to pick me up for school tomorrow. He’s hinted around about dating but he’s never directly asked and I always change the subject. I normally ride with Cole on the first day but told him I was going with someone else and got the third degree. I laid my outfit out and snuggled into my bed. I don’t remember falling asleep but my alarm is blaring loudly. I roll over and shut it off. It’s six a.m. and I am so not a morning person. I drag myself out of bed and grab a quick shower. I put on my white silk blouse and tuck it into my black pencil skirt. I put on my black stilettos and dry my hair. I throw in some curls and quickly do my make up. I slung my messenger bag over my shoulder and headed down stairs. Nick was in my driveway at ten til seven. First bell rang at seven thirty and it was a fifteen minute drive to Vista high school or VHS. We’d have plenty of time to get to our lockers and get things situated. We pulled into the parking lot and got out of Nick's range rover. He stopped me at the back of his vehicle and wrapped me up in his arms. “I know we’ve been hanging out for a couple weeks. I really like you Tessa. I’d like to start this year off right. I’d like you to wear my varsity jacket.” “Is that your way of trying to make it official? Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" “That’s exactly what I’m asking Tess.” He shortened my name. I liked it. I felt so guilty because of Hardin. He should be the one asking me this. That’s what I really wanted. Nick has been nothing but nice to me. Why shouldn’t I at least give him a chance? He deserves it. I intertwined my fingers with his and looked at them for a moment before I reached up on my tippy toes and pecked him on the lips. “Is that a yes?” “That’s definitely a yes.” He bent down, his brown curly brown hair reaching his shoulders, his hazel eyes locked on mine. I felt my breath hitch in my chest for a moment before his lips came down crashing on mine. He deepened the kiss and for a moment everything else faded away. He pulled back ever so slightly with a smile playing at his lips. He wrapped his varsity jacket around me and I slid inside of it. Snaking his arm around my waist he escorted me inside. I was officially Nick Walker's girl friend. HARDIN It was lunch and I was at my usual table in the cafeteria. Kendra, my current distraction, was in my lap. She was chatting away with some of the other seniors at our table. I wasn’t paying attention though. I’d heard from Sylas about Tessa hanging out with Nick the last couple of weeks. This morning I heard they were officially a couple. I ran my hand through my dark hair. This was just a rumor. Tessa would never look at him that way. Not the way she looks at me. I can’t have her and it eats at me. I just want her to be happy but not with Nick Walker. He’s cheated on every girl he has been with. The girls never figured it out but the whole team knew how he was. They walked in and she was wearing his f*****g varsity jacket. His arm was wrapped around her waist. I could feel myself turning red. He usually sat at our table. We didn’t speak to each other but we had the same group of friends. Hell no he was not bringing her over here to rub it in my face. Kendra whipped around to ask me about my fourth period math class. She had it next period and asked how the new teacher was. He was d**k. I told her that and she giggled sinking back into me more. Nick sat down at the opposite end and pulled Tessa into his lap. His hand was rubbing her thigh over top of her pencil skirt. She sat sideways in his lap with her long legs crossed and her arms around his neck. Her golden locks covered her face so I couldn’t see it but Nick had his forehead against hers and they were having a hushed conversation. She giggled and he squeezed her thigh. I know my face is set in a death glare staring right at him but I can’t help it. Sylas pulled out a chair next to me and planted himself in it. When he seen Nick and Tessa at the opposite end of the table he began giving Nick a death glare. He knows his reputation too. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one unhappy about this unholy union. Kendra shifts in my lap bringing me back to the conversation. The bell rings we head out. I pull Sylas off to the side. “You know this Tessa and Nick situation is not good. We both know his reputation.” He nods his head. “I don’t know what to do about it yet but if he hurts her I will savagely beat him.” You’re not the only one Sylas. You’ll have to get to him first. I gave him a nod and we headed to our next class. I brewed all day. It was eating at me. I couldn’t concentrate. All I could think about was her in that damn varsity jacket cuddled in his lap giggling. I hit the weight room at the end of the day to lift weights before practice. Most of the team was in there and it was loud. I put my ear buds in and hit the bench press. Sylas came over to spot me. We changed up fifteen minutes later and I spotted him. We had about 10 minutes to hydrate before practice. Nick walked over to where I was standing with Sylas. Sylas wasted no time. He grabbed Nick’s shirt and was up in his face. “That is my sister dude. We all know how you roll. Try that s**t on Tess and I will make you regret your entire existence!” Nick put his hands up and backed away, “ Tessa is different man. I swear. She’s all I think about. I would never.” Sylas let go of his shirt, “You better never or I’ll tear you to pieces.” He walked away with Nick and I following him to the huddle.
