Chapter 3Present time
The auction day started wonderfully. Kay had done a fantastic job of advertising it and the room was filling up. A complete list of all the items to be offered was listed in the community news and on our web site. It was the talk of the whole community.
We’d also gotten a couple vacation packages from a l***q travel agency here in the city and a few other large items, so it started with a bang. I had seen some very rich friends come in and everyone seemed excited. There were quite a few strangers that I didn’t recognize but they were all dressed very sharply. You could tell they had money.
