Doctor Bernard Clevenger went to his mailbox at his home in San Francisco to get his mail. There were two letters in the box. One was a PG&E bill. The other had the seal of the President of the United States on it. Frowning, Clevenger opened the envelope and pulled out the letter,
Dear Doctor Clevenger,
Major Garcia, United States Marine Corps, has informed us of your invaluable assistance in preventing a terrorist attack on the United States. On behalf of a Grateful Nation, I thank you.
The letter was signed by the President.
