Chapter 6 - Victoria

858 Words
Never before had Andrew been so fortunate when it came to meeting such beautiful women, and he felt that it was the system that made him lucky. Otherwise, how else would he have encountered both Cassie and Victoria in such a short amount of time?   Andrew returned his gaze to Victoria, and Cassie crossed her arms. “Stop staring at her,” she said with a pout.   He quickly looked away, and it was at that moment that Victoria regained consciousness. She blinked while she took in the sight of Cassie and Andrew. “Are you guys a couple?” she asked.   “We aren't. This is Cassie,” Andrew introduced. “I saved her from drowning yesterday, and we have been stranded together ever since.”   “I heard her call you Andrew, right? My name is Victoria Parker. Thank you so much for saving me,” the girl said with a smile.   “You're welcome. I just happened to be in the area,” Andrew responded humbly.   “No,” Victoria said as she grabbed his hand, her eyes wide. "You risked your life to save me. I would have been blown up if not for you."   Uncharacteristically, Cassie felt jealous and pulled Victoria's hand away.   Victoria didn't flinch and smiled calmly. “I didn't mean to offend you, but Andrew told me that you aren't a couple, so why shouldn't I be able to shake his hand?”    “Well... No reason, I guess,” Cassie mumbled. “It's just that I was here first, so...”   “Unless you are laying some kind of claim on him? Or do you feel threatened by my presence?”   “No... I'm not.”   Cassie was left speechless by Victoria's words. She just wanted to say that she had spent more time with Andrew through thick and thin, and their friendship was much deeper.   “Andrew, I've been through hell,” Victoria said tearfully. “I was kidnapped and held ransom by those thugs, and then I almost exploded... But then you showed up and saved me without a second thought. I owe you my life, so I was wondering if you... had a girlfriend?”   Andrew's jaw fell open. He had never had a girlfriend and certainly never had a girl ask him about it. He could hardly believe that he wasn't dreaming. Victoria was angelic and young, but he wasn't in the right mindset to get a girlfriend right now.   When it came to Victoria, she was eternally grateful to Andrew. Her bodyguards were murdered, and she was kidnapped. Although she hadn't been ransomed yet, she did have a bomb strapped to her and would have been blown up if her family didn't cough up the money when they were called.    What touched her most was how Andrew took the risk to rescue her. Victoria could never forget how he freed her from the bomb after he... She paused and narrowed her eyes as a foggy memory resurfaced.   “Did you... Did you chloroform me?” Victoria asked him.   Andrew gulped. He had forgotten about that part while being caught up in the bliss of Victoria being attracted to him. “About that... I am so sorry,” he said sincerely. “I had to slow your heart rate down, and I didn't know of any other way.”   Victoria nodded in understanding. “Just don't make a habit of it, okay?” she teased.   Lost in bliss again, Andrew looked like he was going to drool as he gazed at Victoria. His obvious attraction to her easy smiles and pretty face annoyed Cassie, though she wasn't sure why. All she knew was that she wanted to be the only one Andrew focused on.   “Okay, we get it; Victoria is pretty to look at,” Cassie groaned. “What the hell are we going to do now? There's a truck on fire, and we are still stranded, so where do we go?”   Andrew rose to his feet and brushed the dirt off of his boxers. He shook his head to bring him back to reality and the task at hand, and he sighed as he looked back at the road. “I don't think we should go anywhere,” he said eventually.   “What?” both women exclaimed in unison.   “See that smoke?” he asked as he pointed at the fire. “It's a signal that might get the attention of the authorities, which means that help might come to us.”   “You really think that will work?” Cassie inquired.    “Rather than dehydrate ourselves walking along a road hoping to find something, we should stay in the cave out of the sun and wait. We can keep an eye on the road from inside.”   “That's a good idea,” Victoria cooed. “Let's head inside.”   Andrew hid a smile at the thought that he would get to hang out with two gorgeous and elegant women. He also didn't fail to notice the hostile look that Cassie and Victoria exchanged before they headed towards the cave.
