Dynamic Duo

Levi    Harvard. Sophomore year. Here we were, once again. It was a great Summer, but it was time to come back. We were no longer the rookies and we were already adored by most of the students on campus.     “Dude, we’re back! Ready to conquer the campus once again?” Johnny asked as we were getting out of my car, a 1969 black Chevy Camaro SS. This car had gotten me a lot of dates last year and despite being freshmen, everyone knew who we were.    Johnny instantly had signed up for the football team, quarterback position. Just like last year. He turned out to be better than the old one, and they had him start almost every game. First freshman in years to start a game.     His good looks and charms always got the girls drooling for him. Blonde, wavy hair down to his neck, sharp jawline, blue eyes, not to mention chest and abs well pronounced. Who could blame them? He was a catch.     On the other hand, I was a little less built, but I had my muscles there. Always made sure to wear leather jackets on top of any of my clothes. That attracted the ladies.     Johnny would always say he had his heart reserved for someone, but wouldn’t say who. Eventually, I would get it out of him and he would have to tell me who it was or I would make him eat dirt, literally.     We were raised together in the same neighborhood. He was my best friend all the way through high school. We luckily got accepted here together, and with my father’s influence in the university, we were able to stay as roommates.     “I can’t wait for a new year full of parties and girls,” I said, walking towards the trunk of the car to get our belongings.     “You guys are disgusting,” damn, I forgot my sister was here. She was a freshman this year, and I should have known she was here since all her girly stuff had my trunk packed. I was glad we didn’t have that much stuff ourselves, it was all in our dorms already.     “Come on, Eva. You should know by now how I roll,” I said with a cocky smile. She narrowed her eyes and pulled her eyeglasses up on her nose to get them in place.      “No, that’s not how you roll. You were not like this before. Since when do you wear leather jackets? Do you have a Travolta complex?”     Johnny laughed hard and I threw the football on his head, almost knocking him down to the ground.     “Dude, seriously? What have I done?” He asked, confused.    “Stop entertaining my sister’s jokes, you moron,” I replied, lifting a few of her belongings, “anyway, let’s get you settled so I can take you to the freshman welcoming assembly.”     I took some of her belongings with Johnny's help and we both headed to her dorm room to help her organize, to her tastes of course. And yes, it was girly, nerdy and plain silly, but she liked it and I had to respect it.    She was the only person I cared about at this moment, and I had to make sure she stayed out of trouble here. I really doubted she would get in trouble anyway, since she’s always with her nose stuck in a book.     “Let’s go, you’ll be late for the assembly,” Johnny and I escorted her like two bodyguards to the auditorium. I kissed her cheek and said my goodbyes before heading to the football field, where all the team members would sign up again for this season, and new ones would arrive.     “Eva has really grown up a lot. She looks great,” he mentioned, making me stop in my tracks and turn to face him.     “Don’t you dare think about my little sister that way, or even touch her. She’s like your own little sister too,” I warned him, as he raised his hands in mock surrender.     “Don’t worry, my friend. I know she’s off limits.”    We arrived at the field and the scouting had started. It was not too long before they chose new players, which were not that many since most of them sucked.     Johnny practiced for a while, and I stayed on the benches, relaxing and checking out the cheerleaders who were also scouting for new girls. I winked at them, making them giggle loudly. My charms worked.    An hour later, we were on our way to the dorms and we just wanted to sleep. Classes would start in two days and we had to be ready.     My parents wanted me to be a lawyer, but behind their backs I was also getting training to be a mechanic. That was my real passion, especially when it came to muscle cars. Those cars had me drooling all the time. They couldn’t know about it, though. It was my own little secret.     We walked into the dorm rooms and I passed by a couple and their daughter, who seemed to be a freshman, just like my sister. And to my surprise she was in front of the room where my sister would be living.     Her mid length, brown hair and petite body had pulled me right away.     “I’ll go long, and you can throw me the ball,” I told Johnny as I headed to the other side of the hallway. Unfortunately, Johnny got distracted, and when he threw the ball, it passed in front of the girl’s face.     He walked over to apologize, but I was telling him to let it be. We had no time to deal with girls who cry, even though she wasn't, but it was all the same to me.     “Come on, Johnny. She’s fine. Unless she’s about to cry, then we have a problem.”    He ignored me and kept talking to her while I rolled my eyes. As she was saying goodbye to him, she looked at me, and those dark gray eyes and that button nose made her an even prettier girl.     “Dude, did you have to be a jerk about it?” He scolded. I shrugged my shoulders, not having a care in the world.     “Come on, Johnny. We’re not in elementary school. This is the big leagues and we shouldn’t deal with cry babies. Now, let’s go. I want to sleep for a while.”
