NATHAN~11

I couldn’t believe that she was chanting the Moon’s prayer. I didn’t need any more proof, the thing I feared the most knocked on my life’s door once again. That would explain the attraction I felt towards her while I didn’t even know her. That was bad. The other Tribes surely had noticed her skin sparkle and the hunt would continue, and the suffering would prevail and my father would realize and... oh God I couldn’t let this happen. The next second I glanced at her she was falling to the ground with her nose bleeding. I immediately ran up to catch her. “s**t!” I shouted thinking that everything would go straight to hell from now on. I caught her in my arms and strived to leave the theatre without anyone noticing. Hayley’s voice stopped me. “What is wrong with her?” she asked concerned. “She just passed out, maybe from exhaustion I don’t know but I’ll be taking her to the infirmary”. Lies. Lies. She didn’t pass out from exhaustion she passed out from the awakening that I so desperately wanted to avoid. The good thing was that she wouldn’t be remembering me in any case thanks to the unbreakable spell of the blade but the bad thing was that when she wakes up she’ll know all about the Tribes and the thing that’s going on between the Realms. I sighted as I ran away from the crowd hoping that no one follows us. Luckily, the Academy was empty due to the Moonlight Dance. I walked into the infirmary knowing that Violet had the night off and laid her on the bed. I looked over at her to see her blood color and consistency. That was the last of the signs that unveiled that she was originally a moon child. Silver and the consistency was that of melted gallium. Toxic for sun children. Gently I wiped it up with my thumb and I got rid of every evidence that confirmed she was Sora. I sat next to her and totally undressed her with my eyes. I couldn’t believe something like this was happening again. Solas na Ghel is the worst place for her to be.  Laylath was here, the sun trio that was after her heart was here and I myself, her worst enemy, was also here. What was I supposed to do? I feared the thought of the story repeating itself but right now I was consumed once again by her. Hate me. That was the only solution. I would make her hate me, no matter how much of a pain to my heart would that be. I soundly breathed out and brushed my hair back in frustration. I shouldn’t be here. When she wakes up, I must be long gone and never approach her again. I stood up and headed for the exit but my eyes brushed again her face. This peaceful and pure face of hers, emitting the kind of innocence that could drive me mad. My mother’s words echoed to my mind: “Do what you must do my son… and you’ll see that even the worst action can lead to something surprisingly beautiful if your motives aren’t selfish”. How mother? What am I supposed to do?  Sora was suffering because of me for years. How much more we have to endure to see that beauty you’re talking about? I don’t understand. Nothing good comes out of this, only pain. I swear I’ve been tortured for decades, I only want this to end. But I knew that something like that, was impossible. I knew that the anarchy needed to stop but I didn’t understand why that was only for Sora to solve. Why is she the chosen one? Who makes those decisions and why does this happen every one hundred years?  Can’t we have something stable? Why do the heirs have a time limit until they fall? We are supposed to be immortals but no, every one hundred years a girl must sacrifice her life and get married for the greater good. For power balance. That’s exactly what happened to my mom. I hated it. I absolutely hated it but there was nothing I could do to change that. “This is just how the things work”. Bullshit. There was something deeper going on here and I bet no one has ever thought about it. They’re all just soldiers. They don’t give a damn…  just blindly following the orders of the Greater Ones. I decided to not continue thinking about staff that infuriated me. I glanced at Claire. The moonlight that was coming in from the windows didn’t stop showering her skin, making it sparkle and I was kind of worried about that. If it wasn’t for the full moon, it wouldn’t sparkle so brightly but I couldn’t take any risks. I closed the curtains to protect her from possible outsiders. I, now, was ready to leave but something wouldn’t let me. This building up tension, the urge to make her mine after all this hell we’ve been through only for being in love… And now, it would be worse because she has awakened. My dad will surely find out about that, I’ll be in trouble and then he will send others to find this almighty source of power and bring it to him. And Sora will die, after she devotes her body and soul to him making him the next Lumen King. Great. Just perfect. I want to f*****g die even at the thought of that.                  I opened the door in distress just to find the Sun trio right outside. “You’ve gotta be f*****g kidding me”, I muttered to myself and then I raised my head to look at them. “Are we going somewhere Nathanael?” Aaron asked ironically. “f**k off. All three of you”, I responded and tried to walk past them but Ilay pushed me back to my place. “What are you doing in the infirmary in this kind of hour while everyone is at the theatre?” “I could ask you the same thing”. Brandon laughed. “We just followed you. You look kind of suspicious. Are you hiding something?” I clenched the door knob terrified that they might find out about Claire. “I’m not. I’m just freaking injured”, I said pointing out my arm. “Is that so? Then you wouldn’t mind us going into the infirmary, would you?” Ilay added and I froze. This was hell. “Why would I care? Do whatever you want, it’s empty. Everyone is at the dance as you said”, I lied thinking that this way, they would leave the infirmary alone. I pushed them out of the way and started walking away. “If he was hiding something, he wouldn’t be leaving like this”. Brandon said and I let my guard down. Mega mistake. In a matter of seconds they had surrounded me and forcefully dragged me into the woods. I tried to resist but the match was unfair. Aaron pushed me with force against a bole. A cough escaped my lips. “What the hell do you want?” I shouted and Ilay’s threatening face leaned closer to mine. “Nothing much. Just to tell us what you did with Sora eighteen years ago because we both know that you didn’t actually kill her. What’s your Tribe up to Nathan?” “The hell I care. You want to learn about Sora? Fine. Find out by yourselves because I’m not going to share not even a piece of information with you. Hope I’m being clear enough!” Aaron glared at me with his orange glowing eyes and pulled me by my tie furious. “You…” “It’s fine Aaron. Things are simple. He doesn’t wanna talk? We make him talk. Lift him up”, Ilay ordered and I already knew what he had in mind. Brandon and Aaron held my hands to my back unbothered by my intense resistance and Ilay opened my shirt. He then took out a knife from his pocket, fortunately not made out of silver. I laughed in disgrace. “Really? Do you actually believe that I’m going to talk if you torture me with a knife? Don’t make me laugh!” Ilay smiled arrogantly. “No. Not with a knife…” He cut through his skin and his lava like blood started dripping from his palm. I felt my characteristics darkening at the sight. Something like this, could easily kill me.  “Shall we try again now?” he said getting his palm closer to my bare chest. I glared back at him with my eyes glowing along. “Yeah. Try that. No matter what you do the answer would be the same. Screw you!” He lifted his shoulders. “Fine then”, he said clenching his fist so that he could drop his blood. No matter how much I prepared myself, the moment the thick liquid touched me, I couldn’t hold back my scream. This was toxic. I felt my skin melting without actually melting and Ilay made sure to cover my entire chest with it. “How about now? Care to answer some questions?” “Screw… you…”  I managed to say in-between my struggle for a breath. His blood started sliding to my abs, burning every inch it touched. I even saw steam making its appearance and I started sweating. He then unwrapped my bandage uncovering my wound. “Silver blade huh? Must be tough”, he derided me while pouring some of his blood on my arm. I was already in pain there, and this fucker just made it unbearable if not incurable. Oh my God how I loved this! “Screw...you…” I repeated as clearly and harshly as I could. “Do you even break Nathan? We know that hurts like hell, just answer”, Brandon nagged fiercely pulling my hair backwards. “Yeah, what you don’t know is that I come from hell itself. This is nothing”, I forced myself to say. “Ilay, I think we’re wasting our time here”, Aaron said concerned. “You sure are!” I agreed. “Okay, this is going nowhere. Let me just try one last thing. Take his shirt off and turn him around. I really wonder what do his wing cracks have to say about this”. My eyes opened wide. “What?” I asked terrified.  No. Not there… If this went somewhere wrong, the last hope for me to fly would disappear completely. I tried to fight them off but Ilay’s blood had weakened me. They forcefully turned me around with my hands above my head this time and I was already feeling exposed. I started to literally tremble and the sharp pain didn’t take long to appear making me scream my lungs out. “There he goes…” I heard Aaron laugh pleased but when I started feeling dizzy from the pain a familiar voice echoed. “Hello? Is someone there?” “s**t! Someone’s here. Let’s head out”, Brandon whispered anxiously and both him and Aaron let me fall on my knees agonizing over the pain. “We aren’t done with you just yet Nathanael. You just got lucky”, Ilay said before disappearing with the others in the distance leaving me half conscious.
