Chapter 5

" Where's Layla?" Alexis asked. She had to raise her voice because of the noise around. They were at a food festival.

" Ohh, yeah. She couldn't make it. She had something to do." Mia said looking around for Pedro.

Alexis gave Mia a death glare.

"What?" Mia asked when she noticed Alexis gaze.

" I feel like strangling you till death right now. You didn't think to say anything earlier, when we talked on the phone?" Alexis said in angry tone.

" I simply forgot. You are here already. You can't go back." Mia said as her eye lit up with joy when she spotted Pedro.

" Give me a reason why I shouldn't kill you right now?" Alexis asked giving Mia a death glare.

"You love me" Mia said glancing at Alexis first before running off to meet Pedro.

Alexis burned in rage. But she suppressed it and put up a smile.

"Hey" Alexis greeted with a wave immediately Pedro and Mia walked up to her. His hands were on her shoulder.

"Hi. You must be Alexis" Pedro said stretching his hands forward for a handshake.

"And you are Pedro. Nice to meet you" Alexis said accepting the handshake. But she felt uncomfortable with the way Pedro stared at her like he was sizing her up.

"Let's move around. Can't wait to try different foods" Mia looked all excited.

The couple led the way as Alexis followed behind.

'This is dreadful.' ' I hate third wheeling'.

"Guys" Alexis called getting their attention.

"I saw something I really need to try, I'll catch up to you guys later"Alexis said and she left before any one of them could respond.

"Finally" She said with a big sigh.

Alexis went about trying different meals. She was a sucker for food and junks. But she worked it out later.

"Can I have this one?" Alexis and a guy asked at the same time. And there was only one portion left. Alexis looked to her side at the guy.

"Brandon." She called. He turned.

"Alexis"

" What're you doing out here?" Alexis asked with a smile.

" I love festivals. I attend a lot." Brandon replied. "What of you?" He asked.

"A friend dragged me out here" Alexis replied.

" Ohhh. Where's your friend?" Brandon asked.

" I ditched her. She brought her boyfriend so it was like I was third wheeling." She replied and Brandon chuckled.

" You can have it if you still want it" Brandon said pointing at the stuff they both ordered for.

"Ohh thanks." Alexis said. The server served it in a paper plate and handed it over to Alexis. " Thanks" Alexis said. She paid and they turned to leave.

They walked around together. They had fun. Alexis couldn't stop laughing. Brandon is a funny guy.

It got dark fast, they had to go their separate ways.

" Thanks for today. I really had fun. I didn't have to spend it alone after ditching Mia." Alexis said grinning from ear to ear.

"It's nothing I also had fun. I can drop you off if you want. The car is just a few blocks away from here" Brandon said.

" You don't have to, I can just call for a ride." Alexis said.

" I insist."

Alexis finally gave in. They strolled to the parking lot of a mini Mart where the car was parked.

Alexis had gotten home already. She settled in her bed ready to sleep. Her phone vibrated on the night stand as it lit up. She groaned as she picked up her phone.

"What!" She exclaimed loudly. She was wide awake now.

"Theirs no way I'm flying to France in the middle of the night" She whined.

After some minutes her phone rang. She picked.

"Pack your bags. The car will come get you now. " Alejandro ordered. "It's a two weeks trip." He added. Then her phone beeped. He didn't even let her speak.

"It's 1a.m" She whined for no one in particular. "Is he serious right now?" She asked in disbelief.

She stared at a spot in disbelief for a few minutes when her phone rang again . She picked.

"Get down here now!" Alejandro said half yelling.

" I'm not even ready. I haven't packed" Alexis complained.

"Who cares. Just get down here. Anyhow. Leave the bags" Alejandro said and a beep was heard after.

"Very rude." She suddenly smirked as an idea popped in mind.

"He wants a business trip in the middle of the night he is gonna get it"

"What took you so long?" Alejandro asked as Alexis finally came out entering the vehicle.

Alexis didn't even spare him a glance as she placed her laptop on her lap.

"What's this? What are you wearing?" He asked.

"What do you expect? You literally woke me up in the middle of the night for a business trip were you expecting me to be in work clothes??" Alexis asked sarcastically. She didn't change her nightwear, she was still in pink shorts and a blue baggy top, with her sleeping mask on her head and flip flops.

"I warned you I wasn't ready yet." Alexis said with a smirk.

"I'll deal with this later. Move, to the airport" Alejandro ordered. Alexis smiled.
