Fourteen days since Nevara vanished into the forest and didn’t come back.
I stood in the war room with my hands braced against the table, eyes fixed on the map beneath them. Red pins marked every town and city within a three‑hour radius of Silvercrest. Gold pins marked the same radius around my own kingdom.
Every single one had been searched.
Inns. Private residences. Warehouses. Rentals. Safehouses. Borders. Markets. Checkpoints.
Nothing.
Which told me exactly what I needed to know.
Tobias wasn’t hiding in plain sight.
“He hasn’t returned to Silvercrest,” I said flatly.
Kael stood at attention across the table. “No, Your Majesty. Our scout confirmed it again this morning. His absence hasn’t gone unnoticed, but the pack is keeping quiet.”
