The aircraft finally landed, jolting repeatedly and raising splashes of snow, at the end of a crossing that seemed to never end. Judas got off the plane and found himself surrounded by an immense expanse of ice, of which he could not even guess the boundaries. His first impression was that of having been catapulted into another world, that immense white carpet was interrupted only by some solitary protuberance of dark rock, which protruded overwhelmingly from the icy and compact snow. The jeeps took him and his traveling companions to the central plateau, which with its 1700 meters of altitude dominated the island.
