CHAPTER FOUR

1005 Words
THE BLOOD CONTRACT This was broadcast everywhere in the kingdom. No option there was other than to turn it down. No compromising allowed. No place for two wolves who never picked themselves not when they make a decision before they have time to breathe. In the great hall of Draven Castle were all the nobles of all the territories in the north. They were surrounded by the large black banners of House Draven that fluttered above them, as the men, warriors and members of the royal council stood around them. Renee Vale was in the middle of the hall. But next to her was David Draven. Her future husband. His future Luna. These words were not uttered in private, but only a few moments ago, in public. House Vale's "Renee Vale" was to be accompanied by the heir to the Northern Territory, "David Draven" as was the custom. The people were saddened to hear this as these were all by them. However these two who were most important.Renee Vale and David Draven were not particularly happy about this place as this was not something that they had asked for but they were both forced to do it. It was a choice that their parents made when they were unborn children, 24 years ago now, Renee and David. Now it was the time for them to face the repercussions,Renee eyed David. She was standing beside him, like a statue. He had no previous with her and never been able to touch her either! On the first occasion when they came into the hall. Not until the elders! Not even when the old priest said to them to hold hands.David had his arms by his side and Renee Vale examined his hand for some time and then at his face but they were silent in hushed tones as she leaned towards him a little bit. "Be calm, do not be nervous," she whispered, as she grimaced a slight, cold smile. I would like to be married to a corpse. After a while, David's head broke.David Draven eventually looked with dark and impenetrable eyes. Renee had a momentary fleeting thought that maybe he would not pay any mind to her.But he went towards her.He had a quiet voice, which only she could hear. "My dear Luna..." The feeling of cold had been working its way down her spine, and she shivered at it.He beamed, putting a smile on his face. "Give it time."Renee's smile disappeared. She looked away as the priest started to say something when an ancient language in the hall began and words that had been passed down from generation to generation, within the alpha blood lines. The blood contract was accelerated to the first day and the blood contract was continued the next day just an old sheet of parchment and silver case both in a strange script that neither David nor Renee could read. The priest laid the contract on the altar and he gazed at them and said the blood goes so does the heart with it.Renee's stomach tightened as time which attempts to sever unites blood. David's expression hardened. It is a covenant which will cover House Vale to House Draven and the blood will be the answer to how they will live. In accordance with it,a token was placed between them in the form of a sword. Renee stared at it. On that altar was her freedom right there as she considered the many years she had spent pondering over why her parents had made such a decision and the reasons for their promises to her to give her to another man. The reason for their lying to her and she was now to be married before hundreds and before a man who had told her that he was not interested in her.David fussed up his face even more as his fists were clenched in his side. They were not in attendance during mom and dad's signing but they were both very young to comprehend what a promise was, somehow, it was their obligation to hold on to it. The priest cut them by the use of his knife. One drop of each of their blood was dropped on the contract and the parchment lit up as soon as it touched her lips and it was purple in colour and gave off a purple light. Renee's breath caught. The mark on her clothes burnt on the back.David's gaze came to a stop at her and at once, their wolves all roused from their fear. Primordial goddess.Vargen. One of them sang the other one. All the people in the entire hall fell silent. Then, the blood contract started to come alive and burst into purple fire and all the same symbols in the same old jumble, the parchment was rolled up in the middle then the last seal was put on. HOUSE VALE and HOUSE DRAVEN BOUND. A breath of ghostly wind was in the hall and just like that they were married and at that moment they were unable to turn around as her contract was glowing before her and she studied it. Her soul felt that it was breaking in her.Not her heart.Something deeper. Finally it came into her mind that maybe she could get out of it. That was her destiny.David was as dismal as her, opposite her. He had lost something, too.His freedom. His choice. His future. And it was neither their fault nor was it the other's.This is a contract not made by them but instead their parents it was just a part of their lives. Two children that did not ask themselves, "Do I want him or her to be my boyfriend or girlfriend?" just two wolves that knew that they had to pay a debt which was not theirs to pay. As she watched them tie the knot, Renee Vale knew something that was more terrifying than marriage as the blood contract was not only a part of their families with them was it. But what fate had in store for Renee Vale and David Draven was just getting started.
