CHAPTER 16 When Rory and Mizria arrived at the tailor’s, the windows of the landau were lowered and the roof pulled back. The Varanguards had dismounted, creating a perimeter around the landau. Rafe was there once more to open the door and help them out. Mizria leaned on his hand, disembarking with effortless grace, but Rory ignored him, jumping down from the carriage. She would have landed right on his toe if he hadn’t moved at the last minute. A shame. Rafe’s expression didn’t shift by an iota though, nor did he even glance in her direction. His previous amusement had evaporated like mist in the morning sun, and he was now all business. “Please wait out here,” Mizria ordered the Varanguards as she made for the entrance. “The Marchioness ordered us to stay with you,” Rafe replied.
