CHAPTER 20
They had been waiting on the roof of Rory’s old haunt for a little while by the time a whistle announced that Adelma was below. Pip and Alice had gone, hurrying to the Arms to wait for the foreigner’s corpse. Rory had told them to go for the boots and the belt — they were the most valuable items, other than the weapons, but everyone else would be fighting over the sword and knife. The belt and the boots would attract less attention at first, so if Pip and Alice got to them quick, they’d be laughing. Leather always fetched a good price.
Rory threw down the rope and Adelma climbed up. When her face came up through the hole, bruised and bloodied, Longinus bent over the side of the house and retched violently.
