Taking a deep breath, he plunged inside the charmed ring and waded through long grass towards the centre. There he stopped, uncertain. He wondered what to do. Should he pray? But to whom? Since these ancient people had built their temples in circular form, this was surely a sign that they worshipped the sun — that great circle in the sky, the symbol of wholeness, of eternity that has no beginning and no end. He felt a strange compulsion to turn. And he began to turn and turn and turn... a circle within a circle... within a circle... The sun seemed to turn with him... the earth under his feet was turning... the tall and towering stones blurred as he moved faster and faster, until it seemed they formed a shining and a continuous wall all around him.
