Detective Sanderson listened as his partner, Tomy, rattled off a list of possibilities in the Ebony Makepeace murder case. Her black shoes were highly polished as usual, her crisp, tailored dark grey suit hugged her body as if she were born in it, and there was not a hair out of place. She looked like this every day, and Sandy often wondered how much time she spent getting ready for work each morning.
‘What are you looking at?’ she snapped when she noticed his stare.
‘You. How long does it take you to get ready for work?’
‘What? Since when have you been interested in how I look? Just focus.’
