24 EBONY Ebony watched Brad drive away. He left early, had to go back to his townhouse to clean up the mess left by his father’s goons. He made her feel good, needed, wanted, but the arrangement would not work for her long term. She had to find somewhere else to go. She opened her new laptop, logged in, and made breakfast while it fired up. Sipping coffee and munching on Vegemite toast at the kitchen bench, she typed in the address for one of the online real estate websites. It was killing her that her apartment was being sold; she had loved living in North Melbourne.
