6 EBONY Ebony looked through the peephole in the door and groaned when she saw Brad on the other side. He had settled her temporarily in a hotel room in the city overlooking the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It wasn’t really a hotel room per se, Ebony had thought when Brad swiped the entry card to let her in. It had a small kitchen, a large bedroom, and a huge open living dining area. The bathroom was luxurious; the spa occupied an area as big as the bathroom and laundry in her own apartment. Opening the door just wide enough to speak to him without letting him in, she hissed, ‘What do you want?’ ‘You are going to have to let me in. I cannot speak to you through a gap in the door.’ Ebony sighed the sigh of someone exasperated with her situation, but with little recourse to change it. She
