Guinevere's POV
“Don’t fall in love” was the first rule he told me.
Fear wrenched in my stomach as I considered the possibility that I would regret this choice. It was my only option, so I had to persevere. Can I at least give this some thought? Just until the end of today, please.
I paced the hospital hallways back and forth. My legs felt so heavy that I questioned how I was able to lift them, and my eyes filled with tears. I looked up at him.
“Where is he? I want to talk to him. Perhaps express my gratitude or something.”
I had no idea who this man was or why he proposed to me through his assistant. As I read the second line of the contract documents, my heart began to race. It appeared that reading it would take years. The very thought of contracts made my stomach turn. Will I require legal counsel? Because reading this will take a millennium.
I pointed to the paper I was holding and asked the helper. Since his boss had time on his hands, he suggested that I peruse the papers slowly. He presented it as an irresistible offer.
I let out a sigh, the only words I could muster at the time. “I’m grateful.”
Still perplexed as to why an allegedly affluent man would propose to me—a stranger—I watched the man go down the hospital hallway. I put the papers in my purse and headed to the other side of the hallway.
“Why does it seem like someone is observing me?” I twisted my head quickly, searching side to side for any suspicious looks, and murmured to myself.
Maybe it’s just my delusion.
I put my hands on my chest, grinned broadly, and kept moving. I had a broad smile on my face, joyful thoughts, and optimism.
Hopefully, the next time I leave this hospital, I won’t return.
I was attempting to retrieve my phone from my luggage as I was ready to go when I bumped into a man. The nurses were staring at me with wide-open jaws and shocked expressions.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry. I didn’t notice you since I was rushing—”
He cut me off before I could say anything more, and one of his bodyguards dragged me away. I was about to object, but they had already gone into an elevator before I realized what was happening.
Surprised, I looked straight at the face of the man I had just bumped into. He smirked and muttered something. I read his lips, and he seemed to have said, Soon you’ll be mine.
I felt chills run down my spine, my hairs standing on end as we continued holding eye contact. Something about him spelled danger, but I just couldn’t take my eyes off him.
I’m sure he must’ve muttered something else.
Maybe he said…
Mine to have.
