CHAPTER 32The frozen river of fire blazed brightly though the flames, yet did not flicker, making it impossible for Mara to see into the darkness beyond. She could hear her mother calling to her, sense her footfalls and those of the others as they approached, but she could not make them out, until Sam ducked under the unmoving flames and gave her a wide-eyed expression of amazement.
