Three

Before      It’s been three days since I started working in WilCa and I could honestly say, with a hundred percent knowledge that William hates me. I have lost count of how many times he has glared at me, how many times I have tripped walking into his office, how many times he has given me a straight face whenever he asked me a question or for a document I am meant to know about.    No one told me working here was going to be like this.    No one told me working here was going to be this hard.   No one told me William was a huge pain in the ass.    No one.    It’s eleven o’clock and I am counting down the minutes till lunch time when I can happily hop over to the cafeteria to grab something to eat. William always goes out to eat lunch and I am guessing it’s with one of his many many boyfriends or girlfriends because he makes sure he doesn’t have a lunch meeting ever or even a meeting until two in the afternoon. What the man uses two hours for, I don’t know and I’m not sure if I was to ask him or not. Was it my duty as his assistant to ask him what he doing between those times because he was pushing back important meetings for that.    The time changes from eleven to eleven thirty. I was just about to let out another yawn when the elevator doors was pushed open and a man walks in. Blonde curls falling into his eyes and he had on a brown shirt and black pants, he was also holding a big parcel with a huge ribbon on top.    “Hi.” He said as he walked towards me.    “Hey.” I said as he placed the parcel on the table. It landed with a soft thud and I wondered what was inside.    “I don’t think I’ve seen you before. Where’s Logan?” the man asked and I frowned at him. Yeah, Logan was the personal assistant I was temporarily replacing.    “I’m new here. My name’s Dev.”    “I’m Ellis. I work in the mail room.” he said, holding out his hand towards me. I reached out and shook his hand, smiling at him. He was the first nice person I have met since I got here. I always ate alone in the cafeteria or bought something and ate it up here by my desk.    “So yeah, this gift came in for Mr. Carson.”   “I’ll make sure he gets it.” I said, already reaching for the parcel. My stomach lets out a loud growl. Loud enough for Ellis to look at me with wide eyes. I pressed my lips together, my cheeks growing hot.    “Oh my god.” Ellis giggled, his hand coming up to cover his mouth. I let out a loud sigh and covered my face with my hands. My stomach was making so much noise like I hadn’t eaten breakfast this morning.   “Sorry about that.” I said, my hands still covering my face.    “Lunch is in thirty minutes. I could meet you at the cafeteria and we’ll have lunch.” Ellis said and I.. I had to pull my hands away from my face, so I could look at him. Have I… have I possibly made a new friend? All because of my growly stomach?    “That would be great.” I said and Ellis nodded. He gives me a small wave before walking away. I watched him press the button for the elevator and waited until he was gone before getting up from my seat. I grabbed the parcel and walked over to the door.    I knocked once before pushing open the door. I walked in, humming as I kept staring at the parcel in my hand, wondering what was inside. Once I was halfway into the office, I looked up and almost swallowed my tongue. William was standing in front of the wall length windows, looking up at the sky with his hands in his pockets.    He looked so gorgeous.    William was on all black today, black shirt buttoned up with a tie, black pants and shiny black shoes, his hair was pulled away from his face. I shook my head. No, he was not gorgeous, he was a mean grinch. Don’t let his face deceive you.    “You have a package, Mr. Carson.” I said, picking up my space. William turns around and levelled me with the same unimpressed look that he seemed to be directing to only me. He walks forward and so did I.    I forgot about the steps leading up to the platform where William’s table was and tripped. The parcel flew right out of my hands an di was falling forward, my life flashing before my eyes. I could already feel the pain of my nose hitting the floor.    Only…    I didn’t hit the floor. Strong hands reached out for me, holding onto my arms as they pulled me right into William. I held onto his shirt with all the strength I had, my chest going up and down, my eyes squeezed tightly, shut.    I don’t know how long I held onto to him. I don’t know how long we stood there like that.    “Let go of my shirt.” William said, his voice deep and words echoing in my head.    I let go and took several steps backwards, immediately shoving my hands into my pocket so that he doesn’t notice me shake.    “Thank you.” I said, shyly looking up at William.    “Do you make it a habit to always trip in front of me?” William asked as he reached for the parcel. I hope there was nothing breakable in there.    “I don’t trip.” I said and William swiftly looked at me and for the first time, I get a reaction. For the first time I get something other than a droll look, I get something other than a face akin to the the disappointment smiley.    William raised a brow at me.    He raised an eyebrow at me. That means interest!    “I don’t trip all the time.” I said and it’s true. It only seemed to happen around William and I do not know why. I’m not the main character of a Korean drama, this is not how my legs behave on a normal day or around normal people.    “Sure you don’t, newbie.”    I huffed at him. I couldn’t roll my eyes at William, he was my boss afterall. I just huffed and promptly walked out of his office. I didn’t want someone mean talking to me, I wanted to eat and talk with someone nice. Like my new friend Ellis!
