Annoying patients

Its been a few days since the school reunion and I am now back at work doing the daily grind. Blake texted me the day after asking me if I would like to go on a proper first date, one where he takes me out to dinner and drops me home afterwards… No s*x. As much as I want to have s*x with Blake again, I also want to try and see if this relationship can be more than just physical. To avoid any late night bedroom activities we decided to do it tonight as we both have work the next morning. Although I have work until seven tonight, hopefully I wont get any jobs that will make us finish late. It was now 6:15pm and the day went pretty quickly despite being nervous and excited for my date tonight. We had a good day with a steady work flow; a man who fell off his motorbike, an older lady with chest pain, a child with a rash and of course a drug overdose. Toby is at home waiting for me to finish so he can help me get ready and make sure I wear something exactly right for the occasion. Its times like these I’m glad I have a friend that is more into fashion than I am, as I certainly am not a girly girl, and if I had my choice, I would be wearing jeans and a plain top. Of course, when I told Toby this, he flat out refused to let me out on a date in plain clothes. I was so excited to finish when we got dispatched on a job. “Oh my god, can we not finish on time for once” I yelled in frustration. Alister just laughed “Ill do this job, to get it over and done with quick” I keep saying in frustration. As we walk out to the ambulance I quickly texted Blake that I will be finishing late. Even if you don’t finish until midnight, we are still going on this date, text me when you finish, stay safe He replied. This sent butterflies in my stomach. Most other guys I’ve dated would get annoyed or not even bothering to follow through with another date if this happened, so it made me smile that he wanted this date to happen just as much as I did. Once we heard the information about the job I just got more annoyed. We are going to a regular caller of ours; Jacob. He is a 34 year old male who constantly calls for something ‘serious’ for us to get there and nothing is wrong. Today he is claiming that he has difficulty breathing. For some reason Alister and I always seem to be on shift when he calls, not a lot of other paramedics have been to him at all let alone half as often as we go. “I had so much fun going out the other weekend we should do it again sometime” Alister said whilst driving to Jacobs house. “So did I, however I paid for it the next day, maybe something more low key next time” Alister laughed “Your age is starting to show, don’t bounce back like you used to hey” I just rolled my eyes at his comment, I mean I'm only a few years older than him, and he would be lying if he said he didn’t feel crappy the next day. “How about this Friday we can have a BBQ or something at my house that way if it gets too late you can just curl into my spare bed before bedtime?” He chuckled. “Haha your so funny” I snarled “and sure why not!” I replied just as he pulled up to our patients house. I walked into Jacobs house, its weird because for a regular caller his house is actually well kept and he is a normal average looking bloke. He doesn’t drink or have any mental illness so I don’t understand why he calls so often. Most of other regulars are drunks, drug addicts, or homeless people. He doesn’t seem to fit any of these categories. Although he seems fairly normal something about him just gives me the creeps, but I just cant put my finger on it. “Bethany so lovely to see you again” He said giving me a smile and a wink. I shiver at the comment, he knows me by first name. I just smiled and tried to act nice, as this was my job after all. “You too Jacob, what is the problem today?” I reply “I had trouble breathing earlier but it seems to have fixed itself now that YOU’RE here!” He comments and winks at me. I just rolled my eyes. I cannot believe this guy, not only is he wasting my time he is making me late for my date. “Well we might as well check you out while we are here!” I said while Alister starts doing some checks on him. I continue to get some details about what happened and when everything came back fine I came to conclusion that he never actually had difficulty in breathing. “Well I don’t think you need to go to hospital Jacob, if there’s nothing else we will be on our way” I say sternly because of my annoyance. “mmmm someone's in a rush!” He says with a smirk, looking me up and down, while touching my shoulder. I just smile and stand back to create some distance. “She's got a hot date to got to!” Alister blurted out. I just gave him daggers if too say that was NOT appropriate. Immediately after Allister's comments Jacobs demeanor changed to happy and jovial to tense. Something about this guy just gives me the creeps. “If by hot date you mean me, a glass of wine and some peace of quiet!” I say trying to reclaim Jacobs good mood. ‘I can arrange that” Jacob inserts while keeping his tense demeanor and staring at me. He isn’t necessarily a bad person, but its not the first time he has said or done something inappropriate. If it happens again I think I might have to say something to him, maybe he doesn’t realize he is crossing the boundaries. We quickly said goodbye to Jacob and I rushed out the door and check the time, great just after 7pm, if I hurry I can be ready by 8pm. I texted Blake to pick me up at 8pm and rushed back to finish work. “Gee someone's in a hurry!, excited for your glass of wine and peace of quiet” Alister said sarcastically on the way back to the station. “Did you find it weird with Jacobs sudden change of mood on the mention of a date?” I replied. Alister just shrugged as if he didn’t really pay attention. Of course he didn’t! “Well If all goes well I might bring my glass of wine and a few others to dinner on Friday night” I replied, putting glass of wine in quotation marks, feeling confident that things will go well and I might have an actual relationship for the first time in years. “The more the merrier, I might even invite some more people from the station” He replied. We got back to station and I made a quick dash to get home. Thankfully Alister agreed to do all of our end of shift duties allowing me to leave straight away. Once I got home Toby was eagerly waiting with two wines poured for us, and my outfit already set out. He ordered me straight into the shower for a quick wash and I got out straight into my outfit. We chose a modest black dress that stopped just above the knee with a small slit on the right-hand side. As I didn’t have much time to get ready I quickly blow dried my hair and left it down and only applied mascara and lip gloss.
