I woke up the next morning after having one of the best sleeps in a long time that wasn’t alcohol induced. One of the downsides to shift work is having little sleep and when you actually do get to sleep it is generally poor quality, which I suffer from these days. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. As soon as I walked into work, I got bombarded with questions from Alister about last nights date. I knew this was going to happen, the more I am nice to him the more he becomes interested in my life outside of work.

“So, is he coming on Friday?” Alister probed.

“So, this BBQ on Friday afternoon do you want me to bring anything?” I retaliate not wanting to give up any details about last night. Also I just know he wouldn’t be very good at planning a get together and I want to help seeing as I am inviting Blake.

“Its too early, lets get coffee and then we can discuss both of these questions” I continue.

We went to Tiny Teddies for our coffees and didn’t get disturbed by any jobs, thank god! To Alisters amusement I told him about my date last night, skipping the part about Blake and I almost f*****g at the front door. It was just after 1pm and I hadn’t heard from Blake yet, I wanted to invite him to the BBQ but didn’t want to be the first to message him after last night. I caved and texted him so that Alister and I knew how many people to cater for on Friday. Let’s be honest both Alister and I knew that he wasn’t going to host this BBQ on his own and needed my help.

Hey! Hows your day going? I hope you slept as well as I did last night! I wrote.

It’s good to hear from you so soon , I slept amazingly no thanks to you He replied almost instantly. I guess it is school lunch time.

Well I was wondering if you would like to come to a BBQ Alister is hosting on Friday? He didn’t reply straight away like the last message. I guess it is taking things to the next level quite quickly going from dating to hanging out with my friends. Although I guess we skipped the normal timeline of things when we started having s*x ten years ago!

I guess so… Can I bring Adam… For support when your friends interrogate me He replied. I considered it for a moment before replying with a yes without even asking Alister. Whoops, what’s one more person right?

Friday came around way to quick and before I knew it was 10am Friday morning and I was pre-making salads and potato bake for this BBQ. I can tell you I was not amused to be up this early on my day off for one but the fact that I was the sucker who said yes to making practically making all the food made me more annoyed. Toby jetted off early this morning to go help Alister set up and prepare at his house. I decided to crack a drink early to assist me with my endeavours and blasted my music too loud.

I was cutting up the potatos for the potato salad singing some Jimmy Barnes at the top of my lungs. Yes I love the old classics that everyone just loves and Yes I may have already a few drinks. I turned around and nearly had a heart attack when I saw Blake staring at me from the doorway.

“Holy s**t, you scared the living daylights out of me!” I screeched, all of a sudden becoming super embarrassed about how much of my singing and dancing he witnessed! “Uhhhh, how long have you been standing there?”

He just laughed while coming up to me lifting my chin up to allow me to meet his gaze.

“Annnd, why are you here?” I continued seeing as he was not replying.

“Well I was messaging you asking if I needed to bring anything today and when you didn’t reply I texted Toby. He said that you weren’t replying probably because you were drinking and singing in the kitchen while being annoyed that you were doing all the hard work! So I thought id drop by on my lunch break to see if there is anything I can help with?” I just stood there in silence thinking over what he just said, god toby knows me so well. He just continued to laugh.

“Whats so funny?” I ask while returning to my potato salad.

“I just cant believe how correct Toby was!”. Well im glad someone thought it was funny.

“So, is there anything I can bring?” I just walked over to him with a spoonful of potato salad. He looked at me inquisitively as I moved the spoon up to his mouth.

“You can taste test?” I said and simultaneously spooned the potato salad into his mouth. I couldn’t help but to stare as he swallowed my food, his almost perfect jawline was accentuated by his stuble that he has manicured impeccably. I admired him for probably a minute too long because he had to physically lower my hand with the spoon in it.

“Perfect” He said after lowering my hand gazing into my eyes. Was he talking about my food still? As he lent down to give me a kiss we were interrupted by Toby and Alister.

“BETTTTTTHHHH” Toby yelled as he entered the kitchen. He stopped and gawked for a split second when he saw me in between the bench and Blake, with not a lot of room between us. “Get a room you two” He said while putting his finger down his throat to imitate him gagging. I just rolled my eyes and Blake stood back to create some distance.

“I think we have everything sorted just bring whatever you want to drink” I say to Blake. He looked at his watch.

“I better get back to school, I’ll see you this afternoon”

“Ill text you the address” I said and admired the back of him as he walked out of the room.

“OMG you two are so adorable together” Toby said while taking a spoonful of my potato salad. I just swatted his hand away.

“I’m glad you guys came ill just quickly get ready then we can go to your house Al, please refrain from eating all the food before then!” I quickly went upstairs for a quick shower to get ready. I was glad they came to get me because I think I already had too much to drink to drive.
