Episode 6 Two days later, Nora was forced to attend the first of Roxet’s public celebrations. Her parents insisted it would “look improper” if she vanished completely. In truth, they only wanted to parade Roxet while keeping Nora as a silent shadow, a reminder of what had been replaced. The ballroom was dazzling, filled with nobles and merchants, all eager to curry favor with the family. Music floated in the air, laughter rang out, and at the center of it all was Roxet, glowing like the star she believed herself to be. Nora stood near the edge of the crowd, her gown plain compared to her sister’s glittering attire. She could feel the eyes on her, the hushed voices barely hidden behind fans. “That’s her, isn’t it? The one who lost her place?” “Imagine, being cast aside for your own sister…” “I hear she begged Frank to stay, but he refused.” The words sliced into Nora like knives, each whisper sharper than the last. She clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms, but forced herself not to cry. They wanted to see her break. She would not give them the satisfaction. Across the hall, Frank entered with a group of dignitaries. The air shifted at once,he carried an aura of calm authority that drew every eye. Roxet rushed to his side, slipping her arm through his as though she owned him completely. Nora’s chest tightened painfully. Their laughter, their perfect picture together,it was everything she was supposed to have. But then Frank’s eyes found hers. For the briefest moment, his composure cracked. His gaze lingered, heavy and unreadable, before he forced it away and addressed the guests. Nora’s breath caught. No one else noticed, but she did. That flicker hesitation, regret, something he couldn’t hide. Later, as the evening wound down, Roxet approached her once more. “Still standing, sister?” Roxet asked sweetly, though her smile was sharpened like glass. “I almost thought you’d slip away in shame.” “I don’t break as easily as you think,” Nora said quietly. “Good,” Roxet whispered, leaning closer so only she could hear. “Because watching you suffer slowly is so much sweeter than seeing you vanish.” Nora’s heart burned, but her voice remained steady. “Careful, Roxet. You might think you’ve won, but the higher you climb, the harder the fall.” Roxet’s smile faltered just enough to satisfy her. That night, alone in her room, Nora’s mask slipped. The whispers, the stares, Roxet’s cruelty,it all crashed down on her, leaving her in tears. But beneath the tears, a stronger vow formed. If the world saw her as a fallen shadow, then she would prove them wrong. One day, the whispers would change. One day, they would speak her name with awe, not pity. And maybe, just maybe, even Frank would regret the silence he chose
