Chapter 21
“Joey, open the door.” Aidan stood out on the Even’s porch.
The door slowly opened.
Joey stood there seething. Deep ragged breaths in and out. Aidan could feel the anger dripping off him. Joey held tight to the door frame. But his small stature did not make for much of an imposing figure.
“How bad are you hurt?” Aidan asked, pushing his way in. Joey stood in front of him, wearing a new T-shirt.
“I don’t know. Not too bad. Scratches mostly.” Joey lifted up his shirt then pulled off the gauze he had put over the deeper scratches. “I saw Zander cornering Laney, trying to kiss her and I just lost my s**t. But I can’t compete with Alpha strength. Then your sister stepped in. Well…”
“I know.” Aidan rolled his eyes. “She thought she was doing the right thing. But it didn’t help because now it looks like you can’t fight your own battles, right?”
“Well yeah. But not just that… we have been working together and training. So, what’s the first thing I do? Let my emotions take over and forget strategy. I was just so angry. Blind rage. I’m not very happy with myself.” Joey hung his head. If he was being honest, Laney believing that Zander would kill him and he couldn’t protect himself or her, hurt the worst. He wanted to be the one to protect her. Not the other way around. He pride was hurt. Badly.
“Good.” Aidan said. “Now we will take this more seriously. Starting tomorrow, we go hard core. The real training is about to begin.” He smiled and rubbed his hands together.
Joey had to admit, wounded pride was a great motivator.
