Chapter 24

Chapter 24 My head felt like it had been run over by a semi-truck.  The ache was intense, my stomach was churning. My cheek was burning from the Rogue bite.  I was naked and freezing cold. I tried to open my eyelids, but the light was like knives being stabbed into my corneas.  I was in pain.  ‘What happened?’ I asked Scarlett.  There was nothing.  ‘Scarlett?’ silence.  I closed my eyes again and forced myself to think back.  Running.  I had been running, there was a Rogue, then a person.  I opened my eyes again, forced them to focus, though my head didn’t want to cooperate.  I was in a room…no, a cell.  There were bars across the front.  I was laying on a mattress on the floor there was a sink and a toilet.  A blanket was folded next to me  along with a pillow.  A single bulb illuminated the cell, but it was hung out in the hallway.  I grabbed the blanket, wrapping it around my shoulders.  I was shivering, the pain in my head began to intensify. I put my head down on the pillow as black spots engulfed my vision. I passed out again.  When I woke up again.  There was a large t-shirt and sweatpants folded up near the cell door along with an apple and a paper cup of water.  I dragged myself to the items. I put the clothes on, they were gigantic on me, they made me warmer than I was, but I could not stop shivering. Then grabbed the apple, took a bite then grabbed the water chugging it down.  It was not enough.  I was so thirsty.  I stumbled over to the sink with the cup then turned it on, hoping to get more water to drink. Spinning the handle on top of the spigot, orangish-brown sludge came out instead of clear water.  I let the water run for a few minutes, but it never became anything I would want to drink.  Turning in frustration, I chucked the cup across the cell, let out an exasperated growl.   I wrapped the blanket around my shoulders again and moved to the bars to see in anyone was around.  “Hello?”  I called out.  Nothing.  I grabbed the bars to get closer to call again, but the second I touched them, pain flowed through me.  They were silver and had been electrified.  I fell back, screaming in pain.  A cruel chuckle echoed down the corridor.  I sat terrified as I smelled the foul odor of a Rogue approaching my cell, the same Rogue that had attacked me in the woods.  “She awakens.” He sneered.  His fangs were yellowish black, eyes red and on his face was a wound from where I had clawed him.  Rogues didn’t heal like werewolves did.  The cuts look infected.  “Who are you?!  Where am I?”  I yelled at him. He just laughed again.  “Oh, princess Laney.  You are in no position to be talking to me that way. All you need to know is if you be a good little girl, nothing bad will happen to you.”  He neared the bars, peered down at me, licking his lips like he enjoyed what he saw.  I stared back at him, not flinching.  I wasn’t going to let this Rogue intimidate me.  “Enjoy your apple.  You will be here till we break you.” He said callously while walking away.
