“How was school, Laney?”  my mom called as I closed the front door to the house. 

“Ok.”  I said as I walked into the kitchen to find her.  She was baking cookies for the pack house.  My mom was an amazing Luna.  She looked out for the pack and loved to bake for them.  We lived in a big house about 30 feet from the Pack House, so we had privacy, but the pack nearby. 

Our pack was fairly big.  There were lots of members who lived in the pack house.  Mostly the warrior wolves and some of the omegas.  The majority of the members lived in houses around town.  If a pack member had a family, they would usually move out of the pack house to their own place.  One a teenager shifted but were unmated, then they would move into the pack house until they had a family. In the rare case that someone was never mated, they would stay in the pack house for most of their life.  

“I heard that Zander is having a big party this weekend, are you excited.”  She asked studying my face intently. 

“No.  Should I be?”  I asked. 

“I guess not particularly.  But he is an Alpha.  Frequently daughters of Alpha’s end up being mated to other Alphas.  So, I wouldn’t be shocked if you find out something this weekend.  You don’t feel any sort of pull towards him?”

“None.” I assured her.

“Hmmm” she said curiously.  No tingles if you touch him?”

“NO, MOM!”  I was getting irritated and rolled my eyes.  “I don’t think Zander is my mate.  Maybe I’m meant for an Alpha of another pack or something.”

“Well, you’ll know for sure next week.”  She said grinning from ear to ear.  Ugh.  She was making this so awkward and embarrassing. 

“I’ll be in my room.”  I said. 

I ran upstairs and laid on my bed scrolling through some different social media.  I came across a post from Beta Trent.  He had just taken over as my father’s Beta when his dad resigned.  He was 21 and so hot.  He had not been mated yet, so I’d see him nearly every day next door.   I could only be so lucky to be mated to someone like that.  But a girl could wish.  I stared at his profile pic and sighed.
