His lips crashed against mine before I could even process what was happening.
Bitter taste of alcohol filled my mouth instantly and his breath was warm, thick with liquor, he was drunk.
My eyes flew open.
I pushed hard against his chest, trying to break free, but his grip around my waist only tightened, pulling me closer instead.
For one heated second, I wanted to slap him so hard. But my hand betrayed me, it never rose.
Somewhere between my anger and the way he held me, something inside me began to unravel.
The pride I'd spent years protecting. The walls I'd built around my heart.
The rules I'd forced myself to live by.
I was exhausted, trying to be the perfect daughter, the good girl, the one who always put everyone else first.
And for once...I wanted to be selfish. And there he was.
Holding me like I wasn't invisible. Kissing me like I was worth wanting, like the only woman standing in his world.
A dangerous thought slipped into my mind and it was going to be a reckless decision.
The virginity I'd guarded for years suddenly didn't feel as sacred as it once had.
Maybe… just maybe...I could give it away.
But deep down, I knew he might not be worth it, or that tomorrow I'd regret every second of it.
But that night...I chose not to think, and followed him.
One night. That was all it took to turn my life upside down.
The next morning, reality hit me harder than any slap ever could as the sunlight spilled through the hotel curtains.
He was still asleep.
I quietly picked my clothes off the floor, got dressed without making a sound, and slipped out of the room.
No goodbye, no note, not even one last look.
I walked away convincing myself it had been a mistake that would disappear with the sunrise.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
A security camera inside the hotel elevator had recorded us kissing.
The hotel's manager happened to be an old family friend.
By the end of that day, the video had reached my father.
And after him… My stepmother.
The disappointment in their eyes hurt less than the decision they made.
My explanation never mattered. Neither did my tears.
One reckless night was enough for them to decide my future.
That was how I ended up standing in a wedding gown, about to marry a man I didn't love.
"You look so beautiful," Rose said from behind me. "Your groom won't know whether to marry you or worship you."
Her voice snapped me back to the present.
I stared, and my gaze shifted at the dress that laid against the wall through the mirror.
It looked beautiful. The gown flaying so flawlessly and fitting perfectly.
My makeup hid every sleepless night.
My hair had been arranged so carefully that not a strand dared fall out of place.
This is how every bride dreamed of looking; Happy, radiant, ready.
But the only problem was… None of it felt real to me.
A cry almost escaped me.
Rose folded her arms, wearing that same smile she always did.
That smile… sweet enough for strangers, cruel enough for me.
Sometimes I wondered how easily people believed masks.
After all...
The victim always seemed to become the villain in someone else's story.
The dressing room door opened.
Aunt Priscilla walked in dramatically, followed by two bridesmaids.
Maddison came in behind them.
My best friend. The closest thing I had to family.
"There she is!" Aunt Priscilla beamed. "Our beautiful bride! Isn't she absolutely stunning?"
Compliments bounced around the room.
"So gorgeous."
"William is lucky."
"What a perfect couple."
I smiled because everyone expected me to.
Inside, I was falling apart and the room suddenly felt smaller.
Every breath felt trapped inside my chest.
"I... need the restroom."
Before Aunt Priscilla could say anything, Maddison stepped forward.
"I'll go with her."
She'd been watching me all morning.
Watching every fake smile and the forced laugh. Every moment I almost broke.
The moment we stepped inside the restroom, she locked the door.
Then she turned to me.
"Amy."
Her voice was gentle."Talk to me."
I looked away."I'm fine."
She sighed. "No, you're not."
"I'm okay."
"Amy." She stepped closer. "I've known you for years. "Her eyes searched mine.
"You only smile like that when you're trying not to cry."
And good enough, the tears almost came.
"I don't want to marry him. "The words fell out before I could stop them."I can't do this, Maddy."
She stayed mute, then, trying to make me smile, she nudged my shoulder.
"So that's why you look like you've been haunting abandoned houses all night?"
Usually, I would've laughed.
But this time… i couldn't
"No."
I leaned against the sink."I've been feeling strange lately though."
Her smile faded.
"What do you mean?"
"I've been getting random fevers."
She frowned.
"And I've been nauseous."
Her eyebrows pulled together.
I swallowed. "And... I've been having these weird dreams."
And soon enough, the room went silent…. A long, uncomfortable silence
"When was your last period?" she finally asked.
I frowned.
"What?"
"Your last period."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Just answer me."
I searched my memory.
"It was... I think... a month before last month."
The answer came naturally. Then it hit me.
My heart skipped, and I counted again.
Once,Twice…… No way.
My fingers gripped the sink so tightly my knuckles turned white.
Maddison's face slowly drained of colour.
"Amy..."
My breathing became uneven.
"No."
I shook my head.
"No... that's impossible." The restroom tilted before my eyes., and everything blurred.
Maddison caught me before I lost my balance.
"Amy."
I looked at her, terrified.
She hesitated, then whispered the words that shattered what was left of me.
"You're pregnant."
The world stopped. Pregnant!
One word, one sentence.
One mistake that refused to stay buried., and might ruin my life.
My legs weakened beneath me.
All because of a reckless night…. A terrible choice.
And now… A lifetime I never saw coming.
Standing there preparing for a wedding meant with another man, I felt my future collapse around me, piece by piece.
