Nick pulled into the hospital parking lot. Even though the sudden appearance of Kira’s Jane Doe in the hospital with both her kidneys removed and the abandoned car belonging to Lita Santos seemed unrelated on the surface other than the Latino connection, he had followed up on Kira’s request to have CSU process the car. It drove him a little bit crazy when she kept him out of the loop, but he also saw it as a challenge to connect the dots—preferably before anything else bad happened.
He knew Kira could take care of herself. The casual way she had mentioned being attacked by a pair of men with knives made his stomach clench every time he thought about it. She was tough and clever, but she was also terrible at asking for help. Sometimes that meant she took things a little too far.
