Love works in mysterious ways, something that cannot be pinned down to one specific definition. Sometimes it changes you for the best or the worst depending on the situation. And this situation has turned towards the dark path. The love that I have for my father used to bring out the best in me. I was always felt so happy, free, comfortable, and confident whenever I was around him. My love for him made me work on myself to be the daughter that he truly deserves. That is history. When my father passed, I had the comfort that he had lived his full life. I had the comfort that his time had arrived and there was nothing I or anyone could do about it. But that’s not the case. He was murdered by that b**** we had trusted into our home. The person that I had once thought to be pretty and compassionate. “I told you Gabriel, this is fate, and it was carved in stone.” Lucifer speaks out to Gabriel. “I never disagreed brother. I just wanted to double check, that is all.” Gabriel responds and looks at me to say something, “Are you sure of your choice child?” His tone sounds so hopeless as if he is just asking for the sake of it, but he already knows the answer.  Even his energy feels sorrowful as if he is pitying me. I know the choice that I have made is going to save me from the pain of knowing that I could have done something to fight for what people did to my family and I. Besides that, the darkness is already pulling at my soul like a siren’s call. Ironic how darkness destroys us but it’s the only thing keeping my heart pumping, coursing through my veins. Yes. It won’t be anything new to me because my whole life was like a black void.  I respond to Gabriel’s question. “The girl has got a point though. The light turned its back against her.” Lucifer interjects. I swear this guy cannot take anything seriously. “I see that you are thinking about me beautiful.” He says with a smirk, I am grateful for the melanin I was blessed with or I would have been as red as a tomato. Oh s**t. I hear him chuckle at my thought. Stop it Novelty, don’t think.  Lalalalala.  I sing a random tune in my head, making him laugh more. “It was nice meeting you Novelty. May your soul go and rest well. I hope to meet you in the future.” Gabriel quickly spurts out, his energy highlighting how awkward he feels. Why are you rushing? I question, the same thing that I did to my father every time, to make him more uncomfortable. I see the trick still works because Gabriel’s glowy eyes move from one place to another, avoiding me at every cost. “Don’t worry yourself Novelty. My brother cannot handle flirtatious games.” Were we flirting? “You know the answer to that love.” Lucifer smirks again. Why did the devil have to be so handsome? I thought he had horns and a tail. Is he also not meant to be red? It’s way too late when I remember that he can hear everything that I am thinking. Oh no. Lalalalala. “I think you are confusing me with a demon love. I was created devilishly handsome, I didn’t lose that, I just lost my previous title.” He emphasises on “devilishly” to highlight his pun. Like I said before, this guy cannot take anything seriously. “I am going to leave you two. I have business to attend to.” Gabriel says spreading his wings out, ready to fly. “Greet father for me while you are at it.” Lucifer says glaring at his brother. Wait! Can I ask you something first? Gabriel stares back at me and nods his head. Do your eyes work properly?  He chuckles, even his laugh sounds like beautiful, orchestrated music. Like it has got different harmonious layers and tones to it. “I was wondering when you would ask that. It is a common question that I get from most souls that I have dealt with.” He smiles to me, “But yes, they give the best vision. They are called Ανιχνευτή, in your language they would be known The Detectors. This is because they help Angels see the light inside someone and every single detail, almost like how the light helps you see in the dark.” He explains with so much patience. That makes sense. Is that how you saw the light inside me? He is quiet for a while as if thinking about how to answer. “I did use that, but your energy was the first sign. Your dark side exhausted me when I was in your mind, showing you the memories. It felt like I am swimming against the waves. Which is another reason why I have to leave because your nature and Lucifer’s combined is draining me.” He gives me another nod and vanishes, not giving me a chance to say anything back. “Good thing he is gone, I was starting to feel the effects of his light.” Lucifer says walking close to me. I would be intimidated by his demeanour if I hadn’t gotten used to his playful personality.  At the same time, I am not stupid enough  to consider the first impression as anything. I am sure that the devil isn’t all fun and games. What happens now? My voice sounds so small in my head as he stands in front of me. Towering over me which means that he has to angle his neck in an awkward position to look down. “You become my queen.” He answers as his hand runs down my cheek. I would have leaned into his touch if it wasn’t for what he just said. My eyes budge out, my legs having the mind of their own, making me move back from him. Wha-What? I stutter, starting to think that I made the wrong choice. Lucifer cuts my panic moment short with his throaty laugh. “You should have seen your face. Your fear just recharged the energy that Gabriel had drained.” He laughs again and I just glare at him baffled at how he is taking this topic lightly and joyfully. Can you be serious for at least a minute? I ask. It takes him a few minutes until he stops, and I am already annoyed and considering about summoning Gabriel back to get me. “Alright. Well, once we get back to my kingdom. The darkness inside you will be too strong to be contained within a human soul, so it’s going to transform you into a demon form for it to lie dormant.” Excuse me? A demon!? That’s even worse than being your queen. I blurt out, not caring about what I am thinking. “Being my queen is still an offer if you prefer.” Lucifer jokes around again, making me stare daggers at him. Only if a look could kill. He clears his throat before he continues. “I don’t think that you considered what it means to choose darkness. You made a rational, permanent decision on temporary emotions such as rage. Hell, who am I kidding, it’s not like you had a choice in the first place.” He says. What is that supposed to mean? Wait, why is it I can’t speak using my mouth?  I waver from the original question. “Did you try using your mouth?” Lucifer hangs his head to the side and holds his hands together in the front. “No?” My voice breaks from the amount of time that I have been quiet, and it comes out unsure. Wait, so I could speak all this time? “And here you are, still communicating using your thoughts.” I roll my eyes at him. “Why didn’t you just tell me from the beginning?” “Because during the ritual of the Alternate, it is a ritual that we have access to your subconscious. If we weren’t in your mind, you would have controlled and filtered what you say. Plus, we had to unlock the memories in your mind so there was no point of you speaking.” He explains and walks towards me again from when I had moved back. This time I stay in the same position with my head held high, I shall never allow myself to be scared of anyone again. “Whatever. Truth is, I don’t want to be one of your minions in hell. When I chose darkness, I had way better plans laid out.” “What is that exactly?” Due to the closeness of our bodies, I can see every pore on his skin. Shadows of shaved beard under his chin and dimples branded on both sides of his cheeks. Out of nowhere, I feel a hand wrap around my waist and our chests bump into each other. I would have been drooling by now if it wasn’t for my boobs suffering from the effect of that gesture.  “I fail to understand why you are refusing to be mine when your thoughts are clawing at you to show your interest in me. Just say the word and I will oblige.” He whispers in my ear before he brings his face in front of mine. Our lips barely apart. This is all so weird, we just met each other and its almost like there is an invisible string pulling us at each other. “That invisible string, is the protection spell that I put on you when you were still a new born. It bonded us so that I would be notified if Delilah or her demons managed to hurt you physically. That bond is now mixed with your uncontrollable teenage hormones, making the line between me being your protector and someone you can get involved with blur.” He explains, answering my question but his response only makes me angrier. If he was supposedly ‘notified’ every time I got hurt, why didn’t he come to rescue us from the woman that killed my father or when I was being bullied. “Like I said, I would only find out if your hurt physically by Delilah and her demons. That demon spawn was clever to beat me at my own game by using someone you love to hurt you and I am sorry for that,” I nod in understanding; I shouldn’t be so ungrateful to someone who vouchered to protect me even though it was for a certain price “I am sorry for what those boys and the bullying did to you as well. I don’t have any power to interfere in a story that was written before the world even began. All I could be was the voice of comfort in your ear, if I had appeared in person and disrupted all those chapters; you would have been rubbed out of the book as if you never existed.” My body sags like a potato bag in his arms. So he was the one who was speaking to me all that time? “Thank you.” I find myself whispering to him. “Thank you for protecting me.” For a moment his black eyes are surrounded by a silver ring, showing some kind of emotion but then they turn back to the charcoal black like I’m looking into an abyss of darkness. “Don’t get all sappy on me now girl. You still need to tell me what plan you had in mind.” I know what I am about to ask for might be close to impossible so I gotta do everything that I can to get him to agree. “Can you just say it already? I’m the least strict person in the whole universe; as long as there is some fun action, I’m in.” I smile up at him and wrap my arms around his neck so that I am able to reach his ear. “Reincarnate me and send me back to earth” I whisper in his ear and I move back to drown into his eyes. He smirks at me. “And what would I get in return.” So much.   “Chaos.”   Summary point: Gabriel’s eyes are actually called the Detectors because they see everything and anything. Lucifer and Novelty are starting to bond. Since Lucifer is the Devil I portrayed him to be a free spirit and playful in this chapter but don’t always expect that. The Devil has many faces after all. Lucifer explains why he couldn’t save Novelty from every bad experience that she encountered. Novelty wants to be reincarnated.   Hope you enjoyed. Stay tuned to see what happens next.
