Chapter 14

534 Words
Aria's POV "Stop." His voice was firm but gentle. "You have nothing to apologize for." But I did, didn't I? I'd let him believe I was someone else, someone who belonged in his world, who knew how to navigate situations like this. Instead, I was just a maid who'd stumbled into something far beyond her understanding. "I don't know what I'm doing," I admitted, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I don't know the rules, or what happens now, or" "There are no rules," he said, pulling me closer. "Not between us." The words should have been comforting, but they only made me more confused. If there were no rules, then what was this? What were we? "Adrian," I started, then stopped, not sure how to voice the questions spinning through my mind. "What is it?" "Last night... did it mean something to you?" Or was it just..." I swallowed hard, forcing myself to meet his gaze. "Am I just another conquest?" Something flickered across his face, surprise, maybe, or something deeper. His hand cupped my cheek, thumb brushing across my skin. "You're not a conquest, Aria." His voice was low, intense. "You're something else entirely." "What does that mean?" He was quiet for a long moment, studying my face like he was memorizing every detail. When he finally spoke, his words sent a shiver through me. It means you're mine now. In every way that matters. The possessiveness in his voice should have frightened me. Should have made me pull away, demand explanations, protect myself from whatever dangerous game I'd stumbled into. Instead, it made something deep in my chest flutter with anticipation. "Yours," I repeated softly, testing the word. "Mine," he confirmed, his lips brushing against my forehead. "And I take care of what's mine." I wanted to ask what that meant, what being his would cost me, what I was signing up for. But wrapped in his arms, surrounded by his warmth and his scent, those questions seemed less important than the way he was looking at me. Like I was precious. Like I mattered. Like I was worth protecting. "I've never belonged to anyone before," I whispered. His arms tightened around me. "You belong to me now." The certainty in his voice made my heart race. This was crazy. Reckless. I barely knew him, barely understood his world, and here I was letting him claim me like I was something he could own. But maybe that was exactly what I wanted. To be wanted so completely, so possessively, that there was no question about where I stood. "What happens now?" I asked. His smile was slow, dangerous, full of promise. "Now, you let me show you what it means to be mine." The words sent heat spiraling through me, even as a small voice in the back of my mind whispered warnings I wasn't ready to hear. I was in over my head, drowning in something I didn't understand. But as Adrian's lips found mine again, soft and claiming, I realized I didn't care about the danger. I was his now. For better or worse. And despite everything I should have been afraid of, that felt like exactly where I belonged.
