Her Story

535 Words
Once, she had a warm, close-knit family. But in a single, tragic moment, everything changed. Her parents, the leaders of their pack, were lost, and their entire world crumbled. By the laws of their kind, no wolf from a fallen pack could be taken into another. That left only two choices: survive alone or perish. She was just a newborn then. By a stroke of rare luck, a pack finally took her in. But as with many adopted lives, her new family was not kind. She endured hardship and abuse. Yet, even in her bleakest moments, she held onto a small, stubborn thought: 'I must survive. I am the special one.' From a young age, she possessed extraordinary senses—scent, hearing, sight—all sharper than her peers. However, by pack law, no wolf was allowed to leave their family, no matter the reason. Fortunately, everyone now thought she had died. She could now live a life of her own choosing. But the cost was steep: she was no longer a wolf. She used to dream of building a pack of her own, one led with harmony, love, and peace. Traditionally, packs had two leaders, one male and one female. She longed to follow in her parents’ footsteps, to lead as they had, and to honor their memory. But now, that dream was lost forever. Her father had been strict but kind, teaching her to hunt, staying by her side even when he was stretched thin with the challenges of leading the pack. Their moments together were bittersweet, full of tears and laughter. She remembered, once, feeling so frustrated with herself for not meeting his high standards. In a moment of despair, she shouted, “Maybe I’ll throw myself off a cliff! Then you’ll be happy because you’ll have one less useless wolf to worry about. Maybe my siblings will be what you wanted. I’m a failure—nothing but a burden!” It was the first time she had ever seen her father cry. Her mother too. She realized how deeply her words had hurt them, but by then, it was too late. They apologized to her. From that day, they softened their training. But now, she missed it—the training, the arguments. Deep down, she knew they only pushed her so hard to protect her, preparing her for a future when they might no longer be there. "Only when you lose something do you realize its value," she whispered to herself. A sudden wave of grief hit her, and she broke into sobs. “Why did you leave so suddenly? I never even got to say goodbye! Why am I the only one left to carry on, given this second chance? I miss you both so much, and I hate this cruel world for taking you from me!” A shadow appeared in the distance. A man stepped forward, dressed in modern hiking gear and a durable jacket. He looked down at her with a mix of concern and surprise. “Are you alright?” he asked. A few others followed behind him, and he quickly instructed them, “Get her some clothes. Bring her to the tent to rest.”
