Chapter Seven: Yes Uncle?

I woke early in the morning and looked at my sleeping husband. Thankfully he hadn't noticed the change in my smell. I quickly got dressed, turning to see myself in the full-zized mirror. I smiled when my gaze landed on my slightly distended belly. Today I was going to get an ultrasound to surprise him with. The last few days had been hectic and we really needed some good news to even things out. I planted a soft kiss on his temple before leaving. "Todays the day miss." I smiled at one of our maids as she wiggled an eyebrow at me. "Just make sure you have everything ready for when uncle visits and dinner afterwards." The maid bowed and smiled. "Yes my lady." I hurried out of the door to where the driver was waiting. "Hurry Remmy. I'm going to be late." The elderly man smiled and nodded. We sped off towards the clinic with excitement running through us. When we arrived I checked in and waited. I looked around to see some woman big with child and some small. Some had babies and some had toddlers. It was a nice sight. "Winter?" I stood and followed the nurse to the exam room, then laid on the bed to be examined. After a while the doctor came in. "How are we feeling today?" She asked. "Good. A little nauseous but I'm fine." "That's what I like to hear. Lift up your shirt please mrs." I lifted my shirt and she squeezed some jelly there. She rubbed the scanner all over but she wasn't picking anything up. "I'm sorry but I don't see anything." My heart stopped. "What do you mean?" She turned the screan to face me and pointed to where my womb should be. "Normally this area here would be open but it's not. Other than it being very bright I dont see anything that tells me you're pregnant. I know you really wanted to be, but you're not." I couldn't believe this woman. after a bit of back and forth, she began telling me to just get over it and she needs to go to her patients that are actually pregnant. I stormed out of the office humiliated and heart broken all at once. "My lady?" "Just take me home please." I couldn't believe what had just happened. But I saw the screen. It was blank and super bright. However I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. She rushed me out of the office and was so horrible to me. I had read online that she was wonderful and compassionate. "Remmy?" "Yes my lady?" The old man looked into the rear view mirror to see me. "Keep this between you and me. She was hiding something." "Of course Mrs. Jakoby. But what do you think she's hiding." "My pregnancy." I stared out of the window then looked at my rounded belly. I touched my belly and felt. It wasn't soft or just "fat". It was hard. I took both of my hands and felt. There was definitely something in there. What it was I wasn't sure. Something was changing my scent and flooding me with mood swings. When we arrived home I walked in, slamming the door. My heels clicked and echoed around the open entry way. Uncle was sitting in the lounge with Leo discussing some business. "Ah my dear Winter." I turned on my heel to face him. My hair whipped about and fell over my shoulder. "Yes Randle?" "Please call me uncle. We are family after all." I could see the contempt in his eyes. "Yes uncle." He smiled a crooked smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Leo. Why don't you show uncle our new pet." Leo smiled and nodded. If the feral didn't make him talk nothing would. Needless to say, uncle never came back up. Later that night after we had vigoursly made love, Leo rolled over and rubbed my belly. "Don't think I didn't notice your smell." I smiled. "The "Doctor" Claims I'm just fat." I said with a hateful tone. "Bitch." He shrugged and rubbed. "Regular ultrasounds don't pick up griffin pregnancies my love" I looked at him in disbelief. "The screen was bright right?" He asked with a sleepy voice. "Yea" I said, sitting up and looking at him. "Your gonna lay an egg." So that was why she didn't see anything. "Any OB knows that egg pregnancies are different and are trained to do physical exams. Basically old school shit." He explained. Looks like I'll have to go back and have a discussion with said doctor about empathy..... and lying. The next day I revisited the woman who so rudely threw me out of her office. "Ma'am I've already told you. You aren't pregnant." She said when she walked in and saw me sitting on the exam table. I merely looked down at my painted claws and spoke. "Are you aware of the existence of immortals." I asked. She suddenly grew uncomfortable and when I finally looked at her I saw her reaction. "Ah, so you are. Let me explain something then. I'm a panther shifter while my mate is a Griffin shifter. Turns out, I'm going to lay an egg. But you already knew that. Didn't you?" The woman began to sob. "He made me. He tried to get me to steal the egg from you but I couldn't. I took an oath when I became a doctor. An oath that I take very seriously. So I lied and said you weren't pregnant." I thought for a moment then rubbed her back. "I thank you for trying to protect my young. But who came to you?" What she said next made my blood run cold and the hairs on my body stand on end. I needed to return to Leo. Immediately.
