Days later, Jake Renly, my friend, was found in the woods, covered by flies and in a rotting state as his stomach was cut open but somehow he was not dead.
"What happened to him?"
I demanded with tears In my eyes as he was taken away to Yoren Kelah's tent. She was the pack's healer, and in the days when the pack made war with other packs, she did a good job of stitching up Werewolves of the blackbone pack and saving them.
"Get away from there now, Selene."
Alpha Ulfric's voice commanded coldly behind me.
I scrambled away, worried over Jake.
"He is not dead. Yoren will fix him up. Don't worry."
Beta Grim Knot assured as the Lycans who had found Jake proceeded with him to the healer's tent.
"Why do you appear more concerned than anyone else?"
Alpha Ulfric asked when we were both standing out alone by the hedge over the pack house.
I turned sharply to him.
"Jake is my f*****g friend. What do you expect?!"
I yelled. I had not meant to, but when his palm made one callous contact with my cheek, I knew I could not have been any more impertinent.
"You don't yell at me, bitch."
He said ominously. My hand went up to caress my cheek.
Grim had left us alone like he usually did, but as Ulfric started to back me into a tree, I wished there was someone who could stop him from hurting me.
"I'm sorry, I had no intention of yelling at you."
I begged, but he kept advancing towards me until I was almost completely backed into the tree. I summoned what was left of the courage I possessed and dashed just by his side, escaping the disadvantaged position he always left me in.
He was not counting on it. When I turned briefly to note the look on his face, it was that of shock and I wondered why he enjoyed hurting me so much. As wicked as he was, I was the only one who was the recipient of his cruelties.
"You'd better not let me lay hands on you."
He growled as I took off into the woods for a wild run to clear my head.
I ran for long in my wolf form, occasionally looking behind to see if he was coming after me. Relieved that he was not, I stopped by a brook to quench my thirst and sit by the piece of rock by the brook.
It was not long when I saw Jake stumble out from behind a tree in the woods.
I gasped.
He was supposed to be at Yolen's tent.
He was in his human form and he looked perfect, not like the Jake I had seen earlier with a stomach cut open and mouth gasping.
"Jake!"
I called, hearing my voice reverberate through the woods. He turned like one in a daze and did not seem to see me. I rose up and started towards him.
"Jake! How are you in this clearing? Yolen did a good job?"
He saw me as I approached and smiled, but did not say anything in response. He looked jumpy and when I reached him, his hand shot out and made one brutal contact with my head that almost snapped it off my head. I stumbled back, taken by a wild surprise.
"Why do you hit me, Jake?"
But I had hardly gotten the words out when he lunged at me in a vicious attack.
I was smart enough this time. I dodged the blow and he staggered forward, but he did not lose his balance even as my fist connected with his rib in a reprisal attack.
I saw the fury in his eyes when he came for me this time with a ferocity that scared me. No way I was going to leave like that. He would not let me. I knew he was not himself. Something greater than him had to be possessing him.
I started to shift into my wolf form this time so I could better protect myself.
Jake remained in his human form, quick and vicious as he lunged at me repeatedly, driving Millie into a few tree bases. His new strength was unmatched and not even Millie could take him out.

When I opened my eyes at last, I was in Yoren's tent and she was somewhere at one end of the tent.
"The wretched lass should not have been out in the woods alone!"
I heard the familiar voice from outside the tent. It was Ulfric's voice.
"She will be fine. The boy's got a deadly corruption in his veins."
Grim responded.
" Glad you came awake, child."
The Dowager luna, Yoren commented when she noticed I was awake.
"Mother."
I groaned.
"Jake would have brought you to ruin if the beta had not found you in time, child."
My brows creased in confusion.
" Why so? Why does he now possess such powers?"
I asked.
" Well, listen, child. There is another pack who have recently moved into these parts with us. Possibly they attacked Jake and plague him with the corruption that makes him super strong and rabid.... hard to defeat. Now Jake will spread the corruption to whoever he tackles. Good thing is, you are immune to this curse that holds promise of pain and death and destruction."
Yoren's words did not completely make sense. I tried to get myself up but the sharp pain in my back kept me down.
"Stay a bit, child. The alpha and his beta are outside the tent."
I nodded my head. Still unable to make enough sense of the situation.
"She was running away to have time alone. She got it."
I heard Ulfric's voice again.
" How long was I unconscious for?"
I asked Yoren when she kept staring at me.
"You were put out for three whole days, child. It did take extra effort to revive you."
" Thanks."
I breathed.
