"Please, I swear it, I have no idea what you are talking about!"
The helpless werewolf cried. She looked tired and like many others who assembled to witness the intruder, I stood by Ulfric, watching the lady.
"I'll ask you for the last time, what were you doing around our boundaries? Why were you snooping around?"
Grim Knot asked the female again. She Burst into another round of fresh tears.
"I swear by the moon goddess that I have no evil intentions. I was just around the boundaries!"
" Doing what?"
Alpha Ulfric roared, causing everything else to come to an abrupt standstill. He possessed just the voice that commanded enough attention to wherever he was present.
The female who had earlier identified as Mike lifted her eyes up to him pleadingly and said,
"I swear, I was not doing anything. I just happened to be in these parts."
" What pack are you from?"
Ulfric asked.
" I am from the snowpack, my lord."
There was silence for a while and then Ulfric exclaimed,
"She is one of them! One from the pack afflicting others with the rabid curse! She will die!"
He declared. There were a lot of voices muttering their agreement to the declaration.
Beta Grim Knot and two other Lycans from the blackbone pack had gone out looking for a way to pin down the source of affliction and it was poor Mike, an omega Werewolf who had probably been wandering alone in the woods, that they found.
I watched her plead some more, her hands and legs bound with strong unbreakable ropes.
There was an innocence in her eyes that neither Grim Knot nor Alpha Ulfric could see.
I took a step closer as the men started to hustle her up while she continued wailing and pleading her innocence. I felt my throat constrict as they tried to set her up for slaughter.
She was innocent and I seemed to be the only one who knew this.
Grim Knot was all too eager to see that Mike was duly executed.
"My lord, Ulfric. I think the woman is innocent, please hear her out."
I said suddenly. My voice was loud enough for everyone to hear and I heard their gasps at my words.
To them, I had dared to challenge the Alpha.
He turned to me with eyes as cold as ice and a gaze as steel.
"You have no idea what the rabid corruption will do to this pack, Selene."
" She might not know what she is accused of. She might not know about the rabid and she could be..."
A slap from Alpha Ulfric was all that kept me shut. The contact strung more than a needle prick. I rubbed on my cheeks but did not give up speaking for Mike.
Millie had assured me within that she was as innocent as she claimed she was.
"My lord, I insist that the lady is innocent!"
I insisted.
" You could have lost your life because of the rabid her pack inflicted Jake with..are you daft?"
Beta Grim Knot called from where he was standing with the other men and with Mike whom he was ready to execute. He did not seem to be enjoying the interruptions.
"One more word from you and you'll regret ever speaking."
Alpha Ulfric threatened. But as I watched a wailing Mike being set on the slaughter stone, I lost my calm.
"No! Don't hurt her!"
I scrambled forward, but Ulfric caught my hair and pulled me back, turning me around to land another slap on my face.
Two Lycans stepped out From the woods desperately. They were tall and sturdy and looked alike except for the fact that one had an ugly scar on his forehead.
Ulfric let me go, shoving me hard that I was caught by one of the men standing by Mike.
"I am Gregor Jint, Alpha King of the Snowpack and this is my beta and brother, Jager Jint."
The one without scar said the moment they were standing between Ulfric and Grim Knot.
Ulfric had a heavy frown on his face.
"The Werewolf you are about to execute is our own. She is Mike, an omega Werewolf from the snowpack."
Gregor Jint said. He didn't seem like he was given too many words and he expected to be heard when he spoke.
"I'm glad to tell you that you will return without your member, or worse, you will never return."
Alpha Ulfric said.
"Mike is not guilty of whatever you are accusing her of and that means, you can not execute her. Let us have her back and you have my word that she will never trespass on your lands again.
"Seize them now!"
Alpha Ulfric commanded. It was the dumbest command he had ever given.
The ordinary and vulnerable pack members started to run to their respective safe places and the fight started.
Gregor and Jager Jint were much too fast for one to land a blow on them. They shifted into their wolf forms, both of them white furred wolves, not large but too quick.
Grim Knot was a huge wolf, fast and aggressive but hardly ever landing on either of the white wolves.
I scampered to Mike while the fight was still on and started to loosen the ropes she was bound with. Her eyes were huge with fear and what I could call appreciation as I was finally able to set her free. My hands trembled and my voice shook as I held her up and said,
"That's Okay, you can run away now."
I did not perceive any harm coming our way since everyone was engrossed in the fight, but Mike lifted her hand up, hardly said a word when I felt the feral block against my head. Heavy enough to make me stand dazed for a few minutes before the darkness overtook me.
