There was no blood red in front of me, there was a dripping sound in my ears, and I smelled a smell of disinfectant water.
I quickly gathered my thoughts.
Alex invited me for an afternoon tea, saying that they had broken up with Charlie, and then the glass cup exploded, and I ended up in the hospital.
What is this about?
I can feel that something is missing, as if a part of me has been forcibly emptied by some mysterious force, and I can't quite remember what it is, yet I am absolutely certain that part of me exists.
Well, I won't think about it. Running the clinic alone, managing the daily affairs, getting up earlier than a rooster, sleeping later than a dog, working harder than a donkey, and eating worse than a pig, even if I wake up, I don't feel like opening my eyes. Now that I have a reason to take a break, no one can expect me to get out of bed.
"Noah, get up right now! The doctor said it's not a big deal, you've been sleeping for two days after just getting two stitches. You even talked in your sleep last night! Aria from your clinic has come several times, are you trying to have everyone watch your rundown clinic close its doors?"
Unable to bear it any longer, I suddenly sat up, really, after sleeping for a long time, my head feels a bit dizzy, and my back is a bit sore. I swore at Alex, "How did I end up knowing someone as heartless as you? Do you think I won't put you back in your mother's womb!"
Alex sighed in relief, smiling as he sat by the bedside, "Well, look at that, you're awake. In a couple of days, you'll really have the strength to dig three feet down to find my mom's remains and put me back in."
I felt a bit embarrassed, and most of my morning irritability had dissipated. I glared at him, "Your theatrical mouth, you'll have it sewn shut sooner or later."
Alex sobered up, "What did you see in the cafe two days ago?"
I was surprised, "Did I see something?"
"You forgot? You were just staring at the outside of the glass back then, I've never seen you that scared."
I strained to remember, as if a white veil had covered my mind, appearing and disappearing. Then, layer upon layer of the veil accumulated, and apart from the blinding white light, I could see nothing.
I shook my head, "I can't remember, my eyes hurt."
Alex hurriedly said, "Then don't think about it."
"Why would a glass cup explode for no reason? Is it because I'm so cool that it explodes!"
"You forgot the time when you shouted so loudly that my ears almost went deaf, the impact of your voice was too powerful!"
Totally bewildered, I pointed at the glass cup on the bedside table and said, "This is a tall tale, aren't you? Try shouting at him, and I'll see if he explodes!"
"You have extraordinary talent and a clear bone structure, unlike me..." Alex thought for a moment and said with a serious expression, "It might be that you are possessed. After you get out of the hospital, let's find a Taoist or a master to check you out. I feel really uneasy about it!"
"Get out."
Responsible for my doctor's rounds, he came to my bedside, looked at my complexion, and said in a clear and cold voice, "Mr. Noah, your wound is not a major issue, you can be discharged. Our hospital has a limited number of beds, please understand."
Very polite, and the words make sense, but I just find it so off-putting, as if I'm whining unnecessarily, occupying a bed.
I sized him up, feeling a sense of familiarity that I couldn't quite put my finger on. He was dressed impeccably, with a white lab coat that was spotless, as if it had been ironed. A pen and a penlight were clipped to his chest pocket, adorned with the emblem of the People's Hospital. He wore a white shirt and a black tie. His neck was pale and his Adam's apple was round and prominent. His facial features were well-proportioned, his lips slightly dry, but upon closer inspection, there was a hint of a captivating allure that was hard to resist. His entire face was innocent to the point of being offensive to both humans and deities.
Alex nudged me as he saw me staring at someone with hunger.
I realized my inappropriate behavior and hurriedly restrained my gaze. Hmm? What was I doing?Yes, he was mocking me! Oh well, maybe he didn't mean it, after all, good-looking people say anything and it sounds like they're hitting on men, it's possible he was just flirting with me.
Proudly thinking to himself, the other person poured a bucket of cold water on him, "I heard... Mr. Noah, you're a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner?"
I paused, then nodded.
He chuckled and said, "There's nothing to worry about, I'll be going now to attend to something."
After saying that, he left, giving me a lonely and arrogant back.
I said to Alex dumbfounded, "He looks down on me, do you see that?" ”
Alex started to pack things up, "No, there isn't."
"He just gave a cold smile! I wouldn't misjudge that! That smile clearly mocked, ridiculed, and belittled our traditional Chinese medicine. It was as if to say, 'Oh, you're a traditional Chinese doctor, are you? Even when a traditional Chinese doctor gets hurt, they still have to come to a Western hospital. Not only is it useless, but it also embarrasses them. I've seen too many of those cold smiles that dismiss our traditional Chinese medicine, how could I be wrong?"
Alex stopped his actions, "You might be thinking too much."
"Hmph! Even if he pursues me, I'll just add him to my list of the 250th pursuer, always just yearning for me but never able to have me!"
"Is it the glass that's messed up your brain? Forget about whether he is straight or not, with your figure and looks, you'd be thanking your ancestors for having a second pursuer besides William."
Just as I was about to punch Alex in the mouth, William rushed into the hospital room in a hurry.
Alex chuckled, saying, "It doesn't matter how fast you run, you're still Noah's 251st."
William was out of breath as he said to me, "I just got back from a business trip and heard that you were injured and hospitalized. Is it serious, how bad is it, and does it hurt?"
I chuckled and said, "It's great, not at all painful, I can go home now."
William, although still having some doubts, would not ask me. He would definitely go and inquire again, unable to live a peaceful life until he figured out the reason for my injury.
William went to settle his discharge procedures, Alex told me, and I could only smile wryly.
"Why I got hurt, I can't figure it out myself. Asking me would be in vain, as even the person involved wouldn't know. There's no need to look into it. Eventually, all sorts of versions will come out, and William's parents will blame me for bringing evil spirits and being an omen of misfortune again."
I asked Alex, "As a man, what virtue could I possibly have that would make me a source of trouble?"
"Exactly because you are a man, you have wasted ten years with William without achieving anything, it would have been much easier if you were a woman, or if both of you were like me, without any relatives, it would have been just as easy."
"How many times do I have to tell you that I only have brotherly friendship for William, absolutely nothing else?"
"I've always believed in that, but I can't control you getting them together. Some feelings go from nothing to something, just by talking about them."
I was about to hit him, but he skillfully dodged.
