Lucian Wright took a sip of the whiskey before him, his legs crossed on each other. He placed his visor on his neatly slicked hair and walked towards Bryan on the peach.
“Bryan Smith” he said with a huge smile, his voice louder, tapping Bryan on his shoulders “don't call me that”, Bryan scoffed.
“You and Taz are quite similar,” Lucian continued, “you are always trying to keep a low profile” he said, with his eyes fixed on the ball as he hit it with his racket. Bryan scoffed “I don't have a problem being addressed as a Smith; maybe not just by you” he let out a sly giggle and proceeded to hit the ball with his racket.
“If Tazlyn had married me, she could have easily gotten rid of the name,” Lucian said with a more serious look. He stared blankly, his mind drifting to Tazlyn. He had always fancied her, he pictured her brown hair and how it cascaded down her back, her little dimple when she smiled and how her bosom rested well on her chest. Many times he had imagined how round they would be.
His lips curved into a smile.
“Tazlyn will be back soon, friend”, Bryan said and smiled, tapping Lucian on the shoulder.
“The divorce has been finalized, the lowlife finally cowered,” he said, his lips curving into a sly smile.
“ Welcome to the family!” Bryan said loudly, stretching his hands towards Lucian. Both men shook hands, grinning from ear to ear.

Tazlyn’s POV
The car stopped in front of the mansion and I got out, the familiar sound of the waterfall greeted me. It was one of my favorite things about the mansion. I took a deep breath and inhaled.
I have spent most of my life in this mansion. The maids were all over me in no time, getting my things from me and then the realization hit me yet again. I was back to my life as Tazlyn smith. I had always wanted to explore the outside world and see things outside of being from a wealthy, influential family.
Meeting up with Simon was my means, he was everything I ever wanted or so I thought. I sighed,
Walking into my room as fast as I could, trying to get inside before Mum noticed my presence.
Just as I got to the tip of the steps leading to my room, “You didn't even think to greet your mother” my mum's voice echoed from the dining area, that high-pitched voice still sounded as stern as it used to.I took a deep sigh, slowly turning around.
I looked my mum in the face. I had not seen her in two years, her brown colored hair well-rested on her shoulder with a red lipstick that matched her false nails. She looked as elegant as ever.
My mom has always been “ that woman” . She was Beverley Smith, she had been married to my late dad for sixteen years before his death and she kept his business alive. She was highly respected in the business world.
“Tazlyn,” she said moving towards me, her voice was calm but commanded fear. “Hi mum” I managed to say, my hands turning cold from being nervous.
“I am glad you finally came to your senses” she said, giving a smile that faded almost immediately. “ I have meetings to attend to, get some rest, we will discuss your marriage to Lucian when I get back” she stated blankly and turned to leave.
“ Mum I don't want to be with Lucian” I blurted out, my voice becoming more audible. “I am ready to run Smith Corp” I continued, making mum stop in her tracks; she turned around. I could not believe after two years she still wanted me to be with Lucian Wright for business relations.
He had been Brayan’s friend for years and had made his interest in me known. But the thought of being with him made me hate myself even more than I already do.
Lucian Wright also has his history in the business world in the whole of Birmingham, but I only see lost in his eyes when he looks at me. I had never wanted to be with him, mainly because I knew my mum, everything was business to her and I was sincerely not in love with him.
I never wanted to live like my mum, going from meetings to meetings, I just wanted a simple life with the man I love and our little business going on. But my attempt at that had failed, there was no way out now. I was however sure of one thing, I would not let my mum have the satisfaction of marrying me off to Lucian, even if it meant I had to sell my life to Smith Corp.
“I will help us secure the deal with our competitors” I continued. I had no idea what I was doing but I was sure it was my escape from Lucian. I only found out about Smith Corps problems when I was trying to put Simons's business on the business map.
“I am ready to run Smith corp” I declared again, my voice asserting my seriousness.
“Very well Tazlyn” Mum said, clapping her palms together. I could tell she was impressed by my outburst.
“ That's how I became Beverly Smith,” her words made my insides churn. I rolled my eyes; I knew exactly what she wanted to say next.
“I did not let my heart think for me, I used my head! You should too, you are a Smith”. She would sing those exact words to me occasionally. The words were still fresh in my memory. After seeing my mum again, I knew there was no hope in sight for her changing.
“You did a good job putting Simons's business on the map” she continued. She had been staring at me, beaming with satisfaction. I could tell she was thinking of the next huge task to pawn me.
“ Now you will bring them down.” She continued, “I like how smart you have become Taz”. She placed her hands on my shoulder tenderly.
“ get ready, we are buying most of the shares in that prestige Corp the tender smile she had immediately turned stern.
“You will be CEO of Prestige Corp”. She smiled at me.
“Bu, bu….” I stuttered, “ Mum, that will ruin Simon” I said, my heart racing. I knew Simon was wrong, but I did not want his business going down the drain.
“Tazlyn” mum said she took a deep sigh. Moving closer to me.
“It's now time for you to take what's rightfully yours. You are a Smith, and Simon must pay for what he did. He has to see that you are not to joke with” she said patting my shoulder and nodding slowly, trying to make the words sink.
“But…. Mum” I tried to talk. “Shuuuuuu” she placed her fingers on my lip,“ get some rest, we have a long day ahead of us.”
she turned around and I watched as she carried herself gracefully leaving the house.
