We drove in silence for the next few hours, until we needed to stop to get gas and a few essentials. I waited in the car while Nurse Calloway and Alpha Bryan went inside. All I could think about was what I overheard both my mother and brother talking about. I felt so alone at that moment, I didn't understand how all these years they could have lied to me, pretended to love me and care when in reality they felt the opposite. Tears started to fill my eyes when I heard a familiar voice, "Don't cry Arina, it is unfortunate how things have played out, but know that there is always a reason why the Moon Goddess allows things to take place." "I am starting to doubt that she even cares for me. She took my father from me and the family I once knew turns out they hate me and I don't understand why?" I responded. I could see Zakara staring back at me through my reflection in the window. Her pure white fur was more rident than I remembered, and her Hazel green eyes shone brighter than before but she was ever so beautiful. I was glad I finally had someone to talk to, even though it was just sporadically for now. "Zakara, what is the Lycan king like?" I asked, not knowing if she even knew him. "I am not sure. I haven't met him. But something tells me that we will be safe with him. I have a good feeling about this. Don't worry, Alpha Bryan seems like he knows him and his wolf says we will be safe." Zakara tells me. "You spoke to Alpha Bryans Wolf? When?" I am surprised she even had the time to talk to another wolf that I had only seen once while he was fighting for his life. "I spoke to him while we were driving. His name is Athos. He's very strong and he knew your father's wolf, Ares, as well." she tells me. Ares, I remembered him. He was big, strong, and fierce, but I loved him just the same. I remember after every training session, while at the park, he would shift and let Ares come out and I would climb on his back and he would go around the fields with me. He always made sure that I was safe. Now, he's gone, they both are, and with that comes the uncertainty of my future. "He loved you very much, Arina," Zakara says in a soft voice, "and I know he would be proud of you if he was here." I smile and nod my head when I hear Alpha Bryan call my name. "Arina, are you alright?" he asks. "Yes, I am. I was just talking to my wolf Zakara", I told him. "Ahh, yes Zakara, Athos told me he spoke with her. He said the day after tomorrow you will have your first shift". "That's what she tells me. I am nervous. I don't know what to expect. Father used to tell me the first shift is the most painful." He nodded, confirming my father's words, "The first shift is the most painful, but don't worry, we will be there to help you." he says, and goes back to pumping gas. Nurse Calloway comes back to the car and hands me a bottle of water. I remember that when she was helping Alpha Bryan she emitted fire but it wasn't fire, it was something more. "Nurse Calloway"." I call her, and she turned to look at me and proceeded to ask "What was that that came out of your hand back at the pack border? You had a fire in your hand?" She smiles, "That was the Gold Flame," she says. "Gold Flame?" "I am blessed with the gold flame, Alpha Bryan is blessed with the Mystic Wind. Which he should have used to protect himself instead of putting himself in danger like that" she says aloud, more like telling that to Alpha Bryan. He laughs as he gets back in the car. "I didn't have time to use my powers, it seemed like it was much easier to just fight a fair fight, besides, I was not trying to kill anyone. You, however, didn't seem to care, as you normally don't", he scolds her but maintains a friendly tone and smile. "Well, I'll try and remember that next time when you're on your ass," she says and turns back in her seat. I laugh at them as it is fun to hear them fight like little kids. We started to drive away again when Alpha Bryan's phone started to ring. He looks at the caller ID and answers "Andre," he says Alexandre POV I had hung up with Bryan when Thiago spoke "Andre, Alpha Rick says he can't accommodate us until Friday. He says they have the girl in the hospital but she is unconscious and they are having some problems at the moment," he tells me, but I get the feeling that he doesn't believe him. "I see, I have Alpha Bryan going there second. I don't for one second believe that everything is as he is saying, there's more to this than he is letting on." I told him. "How did Alpha Bryan take the news of Alpha Zeno? I know he was close to both of you," he asks. I looked up from my paperwork and nodded "We all grew up together, he was like a brother to me and I know that Bryan thought the same. For him to have died is a huge loss, not just to us as an ally but to his pack. Zeno was the best of the three of us. He had more sense than Bryan and I put together, which is why, whenever it came time to make a diplomatic decision, we always asked his opinion. Half the time he told us that fighting wasn't the way to handle things, Brayn would tell him he was crazy. But if it wasn't for him, the Lycan Blood Pack would have a lot of enemies." We both stayed quiet. When my phone rang, I looked at the caller ID and saw it was Bryan. "Bryan, is everything alright?" I asked him. "Yea, everything is fine, I just wanted to update you. Turns out Maribelle has been working at Mystic Shadow," he says. "She confirmed that Alpha Zeno indeed died three years ago. She was the nurse that was entrusted to care for him. She was the one there the night he died. She says that was the last night she also saw his daughter Arina." Arina, that name sounded like a soft melody to my ears, even my Lycan seemed to like the name that he purred at the mention of it. "Andre, you there?" "I'm here, Bryan," I replied, putting the phone on speaker now. "Here's the interesting part about all this. According to Maribelle, Luna Eleni stated, Arina disappeared that night, and no one had seen her since. Until the rough attack, and she appeared in the hospital." "Wait, you mean to say the Omega that was attacked and left for dead is Alpha Zeno's very own daughter?" I said surprised I look at Thiago, who is just as shocked as I am at the news we just received. "That's exactly what I am saying. Zenos' daughter is the one that was attacked, but Maribelle said that the injuries she sustained don't reflect a rogue attack but more of an actual attack by someone assaulting her. She suspects Luna Eleni is behind it but she can't confirm. I'm headed there now to see for myself." I listened intensively to him before responding, "Keep me updated. If the girl is his daughter, she could be in danger and needs protection, so get there and get her out. Knowing Zeno, he would have brought her here if he was still alive." "I agree. I'll call you when I get there and I have more information. If it is her, I'll bring her to Lycan Blood without question." I thanked him for the update and ended the call. "I didn't know Alpha Zeno had a daughter", Thiago says, more as a statement than a question. "He never mentioned it to me either, which is odd. But if this turns out to be true, Lycan Blood will be her haven. In the meantime, we need to head out to the Mystic Shadow Pack and get everything prepared. We leave tomorrow night!" At this point, there was no chance I was waiting to get any accommodation. I am the Lycan King and my word is absolute. I wanted answers and I would get them by force if needed.
