fifteen New York City Queen’s Court Hospital September 13 2:00 p.m. Liam stood outside Joe Stevens’ ICU cubicle and waited for the nurse to give him the go ahead. It had been two weeks since the officer had been shot and tried to tell him something. But surgery and a ventilator had waylaid any further conversation. Would today be the day he finally found out what the message was? “You can have five minutes,” the nurse whispered as he stepped out of the room. “But don’t upset him.” There was a tingling inside Liam’s head that maybe he should follow up on that comment, but shelving it, he nodded and stepped closer to the bed.
