The Beginning to an end

Chapter Sixteen:

Rose POV

After Emily and Danny helped me with the bags and we got back to room, I told them that I could handle the rest. We sat down and talked about payment and such and we came to an agreement of $600 deposit and $800 a month with utilities included. I kept telling them that I don’t mind paying the full amount but they kept shooting it down. I gave them the deposit and we said goodbye but not before they made me save both of their numbers in my phone. When they left and I sat on the couch just staring at the wall, everything that happened today came rushing back to me; it so overwhelming that I broke down all over again. Deep down I had a feeling that I wasn’t their daughter but I didn’t want to admit it. But now that I have, I can’t tell if I’m happy about it or not.

After I composed myself, I looked at the time and saw I had about an hour until my shift. I need to go shopping for food, bedding, so much stuff but I also need to unpack… decisions decisions. Hmm I could shopping right now and leave unpacking for after I get off work and since that’s going to be after midnight, let’s go shopping now and I’ll just take my uniform and change at work. Making up my mind, I grab my bag, a drawstring with my uniform in it and my wallet before grabbing my keys and the apartment key, locking the door as I leave. When I get downstairs, I see Emily and Danny sitting in the lobby working on what I think is the account books. When I walked up to them, Emily looked up and smiled which I returned.

“Hey guys.” 

“Hello Rose, where are you off to in a such hurry? We thought you would be unpacking right now. Wait… Have you been crying?” 

“It’s kinda hard not to, with everything that’s happened today…”

“Ah that’s understandable. Well on a brighter note, where are you headed off to?”

“Oh I need to do some shopping before I go to work. I need bedding, groceries, a lot of stuff but I have to go quick because my shift starts in an hour.”

“Do you want me to come with you? I can help carry stuff and I think it would go a lot faster with the two of us.”

“That would be awesome, Emily. I’ll be outside whenever you’re ready. Ok?”

“Sounds good. Give me 5 and I’ll be right out. Just have to get to purse.” I nodded and walked out to my car and got in; as I tried to find a good radio station, I ended up giving up and plugging in my phone. While scrolling through YouTube, Emily got in and we waved by to Danny as we drove off.

I hit my playlist and was happy when ‘Calypso’ by Luis Fonsi and Stefflon came on and so was Emily as we jammed out on our way to Walmart. The song finished right as we parked and we jumped out.

“Ok, we’re only going to get everything but groceries because since we took my car, I’ll have enough time to do shopping and drop you off back at the apartment before I have to get to work which is luckily just 10 minutes from the said apartment.” I looked at her and we both nodded. We were now on a time sensitive mission. Our goal? Get in, get what we needed and get out. “Let’s do this!” we walked in, Emily grabbed a cart and we were off to our first battlefield; the home decor aisles… As we walked to through the aisles, we were already getting distracted. There was fluffy pillows, cute pillows, modern pillows; just pillows in general but there was a bigger distraction right next to them… blankets, fuzzy blankets to be exact and I admit, we were struggling but we didn’t go wild… Yet. 

We finally got to the bedding section, and I decided on one that was navy with a quatrefoil pattern, it’s reversible and has 9 pieces in it; a comforter, 2 king shams, a bed skirt, a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, 2 pillow cases and a decorative pillow. It had everything I needed besides my own pillows which was next on the list and maybe some pillows for the couch. We headed back to the pillow aisle and grabbed some pillows for the bed (to use until I go back to the house and get my other ones from my bed) and some teal ones for the couch; and yes before you ask, they were fluffy too. We also got some fluffy blankets for when I want to curl up and watch TV, draw, read, do homework, etc before heading to where the bathroom stuff was. We grabbed more of my shampoo and conditioner, shower stuff, bath oils and bath bombs before grabbing some feminine stuff for me. I’ll be going to the house tomorrow to get some more stuff and anything else that I want to have in my room since I have more than enough space for it. Which reminds me… 

“Hey Emily?”

“Hm?”

“Do you or Danny have a truck I can use tomorrow? I’m going to rent a storage unit to put all the furniture at the old house in there so Ruby and Sebastian can’t sell it.”

“Yeah, we have a truck you can use but you don’t have to rent a storage unit.”

“Why not? Where else am I supposed to put everything?”

“You can use our storage units; the only thing it will cost you is a smile.” these people are too good to me, I swear. I hugged her tight, maybe a little too tight but she could hug me back so I guess not that tight.

“I love you. You’re amazing.” she laughed and patted my back before I let go of her.

“I already know I’m amazing, the hard part about it is not everyone knows it. Oh and tomorrow, I’ll have Danny and our son go with you to help move everything.”

“You guys have a son?” 

“Yep. His name is Andrew and he’s your age believe it or not.”

“What? But… you don’t look like you’re over 25. How… how old are you?” when I said it, it sounded like I was being rude but before I could say sorry she started laughing so I wasn’t being rude; thank god. I don’t want to piss her off since they are being super sweet to me.

“Oh god. I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile. But to answer your question, I’m 38 and Danny is 39. I was 22 and Danny 23 when we had Andrew. We were already planning the wedding when we found out that I was pregnant so it just made everything 10 times better.”

“So you guys have been married for almost 20 years?”

“Yep. And I fell more and more in love with him everyday and I haven’t stopped.”

“Wow.. I wish I had a love like yours.”

“I know you will, just give it time.” wrong..

“Maybe but I highly doubt it. No one would ever be able to love someone as damaged as I am.” 

“Rose…” whoops… now the atmosphere is depressing.

“It’s ok. Come on I still need a trashcan and stuff for the kitchen. Then we’ll check out and I’ll drop you off back at the apartment.” we walked the short distance to the appliance section and I found a knife set that came with a block so I wouldn’t need to look for one before we went to pick out a trash can. I picked one that was stainless steel step trash can, a box of trash bags, a bunch of silverware, an organizer for the silverware, all kinds of utensils as well as pots and pans before we went to check out. I will admit that I had spent more then I thought I would but it’s ok. When Emily saw the total, I will say the look on her face was hilarious. She tried to buy some of it but I told her no and that she didn’t need to; she kept insisting but I still didn’t let her. After we checked out, we loaded up the car and I dropped her off.

“Hey Rose?”

“Yeah?”

“What time do you get off work tonight?”

“Midnight but I won’t be back til a little after that. Why do you ask?”

“So Danny and I can help you take everything up to your new apartment of course.”

“It’s ok guys I got it. Everything can pretty much go in the trash can to make it easier to carry it all. So it’s ok.”

“We’ll see you around midnight Rose. Have fun and be safe.”

“I said it’s fine…” they walked away and waved before disappearing into the building. Well whatever I guess. I sighed; I don’t want to work but I need money. I need to text Adam and let him know that I moved. Wait.. Adam looks like me and Raul. No way...
